Just got back from a drive and towards the end I could hear a high pitched noise like a seagull was stuck in my engine! It gets worse the more revs you give it. Could just be a slipping belt or something but its got alot worse now and I don't really want to drive it incase it gets worse. Really don't have a clue what to do about it as I'm not the greatest mechanic in the world Are the RAC or AA any good at looking at things like this?! Anyone had any experience of them?! Any help much appreciated guys

My Elise have accumlated dirt at underneath and back of the seats - including the sides where my hand never will be able to reach the floor. I would like to give it a good clean and the only option I can think of is to remove the seats. Is there another easy ways to clean the floors underneath/around the seats? Let me know. M

Seeing as my numberplate (and the mounting thing) was stolen from the roadside, I was wondering what plate to get, and where to put it. I'm not going to pay £70+VAT for another mounting plate thing, and it what with the car being so low it got smacked off every speed hump/camber change - so I was wondering what my other options were? Where else can it be stuck? Obviously gotta be careful not to bloke the airflow too...any ideas?

Thinking about getting a new battery fitted - this ones been in nearly 4 years and has been recharged a few times. Lots of short journeys and multiple starts in the morning (due to it not wanting to go) have left me feeling that a new battery could help to aleviate (sp?) some of the problems I've got. (I'd also search the forum, as I think this has been discussed before, but I can't find a search function ) So then - battery recommendations?

My drivers door won't stay open, it's bugged me for a while 'cause I need every limb to get out the Elise and using one to keep the door open doesn't make it any easier! Am I right in thinking its a part called the 'door check strap'? Is it an easy swap? Thanx in advance Courteney.

After much driving at speed and moving my finger around the edge of the drivers side window I have identified the source of the gale that whistles through the window at speeds of over 60mph. If I push the rubber closer to the drivers window just above the black plastiky thing that provides support to the wing mirror, the wind noise stops. So the question is, do I adjust the wing mirror support, the rubber or the drivers window ?? Ta very much, Steven

Hi, New member, been 'visiting' for a while but only just got round to registering. Have had my standard S1 since August and still loving it but am in need of tyres all round and, having read all your useful discussions, am having the Toyo/Advans debate with myself. Toyos currently ahead due to the shock of opening my post-Xmas visa bill! However, I am still a bit confused about sizes for rears. I notice most people go for 225's but elises.co.uk says this is OK for the Advans but not for Toyo T1+'s on standard rims and doesn't even comment on the best size for the T1-S's. Can anyone clear this up for me, once and for all? Also, are any other tyres not…

New fronts were easy. I had no choice. But I need new rears and looking on www.mytyres.co.uk there's stacks of 225/45 R17's to choose from. Bridgestone Potenza (as current) are £93 'Top Quality' (!) ones are £53 And there's lots of others in between. I'm a tight git... so want some really cheap ones, that stick like glue in all conditions and last for 20k miles... Failing those being easily available... dare I risk the cheap ones? Anyone got any experience? I do like to spin them on daily basis, but I do push my luck on corners so don't want to compromise grip too much. Obviously I'll be waiting till after Thursdays 1stLotus day before I swap. Perfe…

Checking round the car, happened to notice the front tyres almost worn away on inside edges whereas outside edges still have plenty (4mm?) tread left. Those that know me will know I hate throwing anything away, but I've finally seen off those tired old tyres! The good news is that I can now go and buy a nice fresh set of Advans and will have a Geo at the same time. Always thought the front end was a bit "pointy" - could this be why? Fortunately the wear is consistent left-to-right but what does this condition say about my Geo settings? What should the garage be looking out for? Just Geo or possible damage or wear? Expert/ knowledgeable help would be much …

HI Ive been informed by the garage named above that my head gasket has gone. Absolutly no signs. Normal temp, no coolant loss etc. The reason i took it to them was because the car wouldnt pass the emmisions on mot. Anyway They are fitting a new gasket. Does anyone know if lotus dealers use uprated head gaskets as i forgot to ask the question?? Cheers Mark

I have recently picked up my Elise. However it seems to have developed a strange knocking sound when I steer - mainly when I steer left!!?? Is it meant to do this? The steering doesn't seem to be affected but I am a bit concerned as I have only had the car for 2 days. It's a MK2 sport 135 model - done 12000 miles. Many thanks. Steve

Hi, Jusrt received my Hurricane induction kit from eliseparts.com and would like to install it straight away. When I was researching which induction kit to buy I found a website that gave detailed instructionws on how to remove the old airbox but now I can't find it. Does anyone have or know where I can go for instructions on this? Also, once the Hurricane has been installed I need to reset the ECU right? How is this done? Thanks Phil

I know, i know, it's not really what the elise is about and the it'll add weight but the missus is complaining a bit and i'm just toying with the idea. (only had the car 1 day!!!) And, I'm getting a bit of a knock form the rear when i'm travelling up hill and go over a bump. Is there a common bush or joint that tends to wear?? PS these cars are great!!
