Ok...Its about that time that my Lotus Elise needs its first service with me. It needs an 'A' service....which is good news...but I'm wondering where to take it. I have just been quoted 380 by storm in Leicester...is this about right?? MOT due end of Feb so thought I'd get them both done at same time...any other places that are cheaper?? G

Fitting a Sparco steering wheel. Have got the old wheel off, put the adaptor on and found that it seems to have two sizes of holes. The nuts supplied fit in one type of those holes, but the steering whell holes line up with the smaller holes, and I don't have the bolts for that. Whjat I'm after are the Allen key variety with the round cap, preferably in anodised blue. Anyone confirm the size for me (8mm?) and where I can get some...? Cheers, Mr G

I was wondering if someone here could offer some information. I am not a lotus owner, but I have been trying to gain more information on the older cars that run a turbo, twin carb set-up. If anyone has any information on these cars and if they used a push or pull through system on the carbs I would be most appreciative. Also any pics or diagrams of this system would be a real help. Thanks again.

I washed the car at the weekend, Drove down to Newbury then cross country to Farnham then back up to Leicester... No loud bangs etc but did notice what I thought was a door rattle. I looked for the cause of the rattle this morning and the drivers side intake grill is broken and flapping about. Question I can see two bolts with washers that secure the grill from the inside but also there seems to be a self tapping screw on the underside that secures the inner edge of the grill towards the bottom. How do you get to this screw? Is it accessable from the wheel arch or do you have to remove the reardiffuser? Have ordered a new grill £28.00 inc VAT but it w…

My grandfather sadly passed away in December this year. When I was 17 he helped me build my first kit car and always had a unique interest in what I was driving and buying. When the will was given out it turns out he has left me just under 10K. His will is that I fulfill my dream of 'Fully' modifying my ride so it is exactly how I want it and this is what the money is for!!! I will probably spend around 5k on paying off my student loans...but the other 5 I am going to put towards my Elise. My plans so far are:- Spray Job (to get rid of all stone chips and roof mounting grazes) Rear spoiler (sprayed at same time as car) Air box Twin headlight conversion …

Came to start the car today and the battery had run down. Nothing unusual as I had not driven it for a couple of weeks and I regularly have to start it up with jump leads. Anyway pushed it out of the garage but the bonnet release toggle in the car was locked solid. So car is in driveway, no battery and can't get the bonnet open. For no apparent reason I waggled the bonnet itself a bit and (much to my surprise) it sprang open. The catch was not fully engaging on the locking mechanism and so there was a bit of play when the bonnet was waggled. This time my spindly jump leads were not sufficient to start the car but eventually this was achieved thanks to the good cha…

Brakes! Yesterday, when I drove out from my home, the brakes didnt work at all, almost crashed to another car - had to pump it to get the pressure up. Checked it and found that the brake fluid was leaking from front/right brake caliper - bubbling from the nut (the spray marks on the alloy was a give-away). Managed to tighten the nut and it seems to do the trick. I felt that awful sinking feeling when realising the brakes don't work at all!! Has anyone have the same experience?

Does anybody on this site have personal experience of fitting the S1 suspension to an S1 Elise ? I'm poised ready to buy but would very much appreciate your local comments. I'd even be willing to sample somebody's conversion in the flesh if not too far from Stourbridge. Cheers.

Really, really need to sort my tyres. Thread on SELOC about Toyo/Yoko's (still not sure which is 'better' after 35~ posts though!) and Scott said... "With 225 rear your meant to have 195 front" Is that right? I thought it was meant to be 225 rear, 175 front from the factory, but they (SELOC, Enthusiasts etc) recommend 185 front? So my 245/175 combo is worse than I thought! Can someone tell me the *right* sizes, including profile, for the 160? Ta!

After all the useful comments about tyres I've got another question for everyone - I have a standard sub 120bhp S1 elise with no mechanical mods at all and it sounds pretty pathetic. What's the best way to improve engine grunt without paying through the neck?

My leads are about to arrive and I know Beefcake fitted his own. The man who supplied them laughed down the phone at me and said I would find it interesting fitting them myself! (perhaps he knows me! ) With no technical experience (apart from mountain bike building and setup) also no garage full of tools. I don't even think I have a socket set, how big a task will this be? Will I need the rear clam off? wheel arch liners etc? What tools will I need? Is there a faq post on doing this somewhere? If I start and get stuck how many weekends will I not be driving my liz??? WAH! Many thanks James
