Coming back last night at 3am (I *love* driving at night, when its quiet) I was having some fun on the way back from a crap night* and taking some corners enthusiastically. Noticed a low rumbling/vibration/groaning when taking right handers. Did it twice, then I couldn't get it to do it again. I'm sure this is a sign of something wearing - ball joints or something....but due to my general mechanical retardedness I can't remember what it is. Any ideas? *Also, I know this is very OT from the thread, but has anyone ever been to "Blast Off" in Wolvo? If anyone asks, just say no!

i know that lotus basically make the VX 220 and use the same chassis as the elise, but with the new VX having turbo power, why won,t lotus use a blown system?? how to vauxhall get the unit inside the chassis now?? i,m presuming that the engine has nearly the same mounts as the K series uses or i,m i,m totally wrong?? i,ve seen the duratec conversions, audis, honda Vtecs but why not a vauxhall turbo lump??

Car's in at NW getting the heater replaced. The problem was water getting onto the electrics and shorting it out. There was apparently a swimming-pool of water splishing about in the body. Don't know how the water got there any why it didn't drain away, but hopefully it'll get fixed. Nice and warm, just in time for Summer. In my last week of warrantee too. I take it no-one else has ever had this problem?

Hi, A recent MOT picked up that my rear pads need changing, which I'm going to do in conjuction with fitting braided hoses. I bought some cheap rear pads off ebay - the mintex ones that are always listed and cost me £19. I'm just starting to have second thoughts though, don't really want to sacrifice a bit of money on the brakes and regret it later. I dont intend to do any track days, except for a first lotus day coming up, but just want something reasonable for road use. Any oppinions on whether the Mintex one's will be fine and I'm worrying about nothing, or what are the pros/cons of EBC pads and are there any other choices (apart from Pagid one's which seem a …

My cylinder head gasket has blown on my Elise, after only 33000 miles. I am thinking about replacing the gasket myself and I want to know if any one has any sensible advice. I have been told that it tacks about 8 hours, is the correct. Can you get to all the bolts through the wheel arch without taking the rear clamshell off? !!Please Help!!

Just driven back from g/f's and on the way a few things have seemed a little strange. 1) Waiting at traffic lights, a few wisps of smoke coming from radiator, temp was sat at 87.... moved on and about 1 mile later, a large amount (approx 10 inch square) of (clear) water sprayed onto the screen on passenger side... seemed hot as it caused inside of screen to mist up. It had been raining very, very heavily overnight so i assumed this could well be water on the radiator that was evaporating? After that i carried on but noticed that: 2) The temp guage was reading a couple of degrees lower than usual (normally solid at 87, occasionaly rising as far as 91 wh…

Hi All, At higher speeds only, 70 mph +, I get tapping noises coming from below the driver's seat. This sounds like loose stones or nuts knocking on the outside under the aluminium car tub. It's definitely not just stones from the road hitting the underside as the sound is continuous rather than eventually subsiding.. Can stones get caught in the aluminium undertray under the driver's side and if so what's the best way to remove them ??

Hi guys. New to the website and it looks great - loads of info. But i've had a scout round the topics and haven't been able to find anything about windscreens for the Elise. A couple of weeks ago I had to have mine replaced due to a crack on the drivers side. Don't know what caused it - I didn't notice it appear while driving. Got it replaced through my insurance no problem, but I've just gone out to my car and what do you know - I've got another one. This time about twice as long as before. Cleaned the car yesterday afternoon after being out in it - everything was fine, I'm positive. I read somewhere they are as thin as possible to keep the weight down, but I've n…

Arghhh!!! Its all my fault for reading the earlier topic! Started new job today, without new company car till next week so drove the elise (fantastic day!) through Cannock Chase. Get to work, read the earlier post, get back in the car at lunch time to pop back home, notice a stonechip just above where the wiper blade sits, by the time I got home tonight its a made a crack nearly from top to bottom! Called insurance, a new one is being fitted by Autoglass for the £50 excess on Thursday - I'm glad I got something out of the insurers as it lapses on Friday! Shall I call the autoglass branch tomorrow to tell them to send someone experienced in the elise screen?…

Right then, I'm in the process of buying a second car for commuting to work in, so the lizzy is now going to be kept in a garage as opposed to on the driveway. As i've got c*ck all to do this easter i thought i'd give her a right good polish . So, any recommendations for a good polishing substance? cheers jez
