On my Mk1 the previous ham fisted muppet owner had at some point damaged the tension bolt ( Allen Key ) that sits either side at the back of the roof, is there any way to replace this or get it fixed before it gets too damaged to undo or do up, its not too bad at the moment but i can see it rounding off at some point in the future

Hi all, Quick question... does anyone know where to get Mk1 Sport 160 look front grills? They are black or silver plastic ones, which I personally think look really good. Any advice? G

Sorry guys, another window question. What glue have people been using to stick their windows back into the brackets. I have seen that some have been using uni bond industrial stuff and some have been using a standard 2 part glue (i assume like aryldite). My other wimdow is on its way out and i was thinking i might glue it berfore saturday. What does everyone reckon. a special industrial glue or a 2 parter from B and Q. And also ...... I have just bought a turtle wax, it appeares to be for all cars but is there anything i need to be warry of before applying it to fibreglass?? Cheers Ally

This morning I had a lot of smoke coming from the engine - checked oil and coolant levels they were fine. Got the AA to bring it back home but now I am wondering where to take it to get it looked at. The AA seem to think I have an oil leak that is dripping onto the exhaust system causing the smoke and smell. I remember reading about a garage in Burbage (ony 5 miles from where I live) but have read a recent post saying they no longer deal with Elises. My only other options are Horizon or Nick Whale - both 30 minutes drive from here. Unfortunately the AA have told me only to drive the car for a very short distance. Has anyone got any ideas please? Were would be the …

For a few days now my S2 has been stuttering when I accelarate in all gears. It jerks around and is starting to get on my nerves now! I'm crap at all the technical things to do with my car so don't have any idea what it may be! The temperature is fine and everything else seems normal apart from this. Although it does sound like a diesel sometimes The car is due for a service next month which I hope will cure my car but until then does anyone know what the problem could be?! Cheers for any help

Put in the 'expensive' unleaded yesterday, by mistake, started, so carried on just to see if any difference. It is the high octane variety from Sainsburys, I don't ever normally use supermarket fuel but I had been on refill for a few miles! Now, this could be in my head, but the engine seems to be running really smoothly. I had assumed I was imagining it, as having driven to the petrol station, it was warm on its return run, but even this morning from cold, it sounded so much smoother, without any stutters or growls and bangs. I don't really know what the difference in the fuel is, hell, I don't even know what Octane is, a gas??? Anyhow, do I now continue wit…

I've arranged to buy a magnex exhaust from solobut but seem to be having some trouble getting the old one off, eveything is unbolted and the exhaust moves freely in the space it has but i cant seem to get it to come out properly, its def not attached to anything but it seems that to get it out it needs tipping backwards and downwards through the holes in the back of the clamshell, i dont want to break anything or damage anything, have any of you done this yourselves and had the same problems, some help is needed, as i've half got the old one off and the new one im collecting tomorrow and would like the car back on the road ASAP

I have a std s1 with the original 5 spoke wheels. What tyre sizes should i be looking at. I think the Advans are 195/225 what effect will having bigger tyres have?? also i can get toyos in either 185/205 or 195/225 funnily enough the larger size toyos work out slightly cheaper. Should i go for the bigger size Toyo or will the flex in the tyre be too much of a pain?? cheers

Wow. I've just had a pair of Toyos put on the rear of my S1 Elise, replacing P0s, but leaving the P0s on the front. And now its scary as hell to drive. I'd heard about the sidewall flex so have put the pressures up to 26 PSI, which made quite an improvement, but I still don't like it. If I get Toyos on the front will this improve (I know thats bound to be yes) but by how much - do they really behave that differently? With the P0s I always felt like the car would just squat down and turn, especially when accelerating out of a corner, whereas now it initially changes direction quicker, but feels like the back is stepping out. Most people seem to give Toyos good rev…

Apparently they're the replacement for the sp9000. Redisigned to improve road contact under hard cornering, sounds promising to me.

Potentially dumb arsed question but having never done it before, how easy is it likely to be to fit a decent head unit in an S2? Getting very pissed off with the shite stereo (clarion standard jobbie, with emphasis on the jobbie as it goes). Since it's a 111s I already have four speakers which seem OK, but want to get something which plays MP3 and has DAB. Do I just take out the existing unit and hope to find a convenient socket or something behind or is it a shed load of wiring or a garage effort? I am assuming that I'll have to do something about the arial as well since that's complete gonads... Any help appreciated...iTrip great in the sensible car but recepti…

Apart from visting my local New Holland dealer (yes there is one!) and getting some proper field tyres fitted i was wondering what else i could fit. I've decided that the bridgestones are too much of an all things to all men compromise , ie, sort of ok in wet and damp and dry but not really that good at anything. Back in the day i used to get goodyear aquatread tyres on the front of my Lancia, the wierd ones with the centre channel. They certainly improved wet grip and pretty much took away an sort of aquaplaning risk. I noticed at the meet that several of the S1's had some rather funky directional V patern treads, are these the famed Toyos? Am i just over r…

The tail pipes ( mild steel) on my factory fitted four year old 111S are on the way out, although the main exhaust box looks good. Should I replace all the exhaust or just the pipes. If noise is to be kept to a minimum along with cost is there anyone out there who can guide me in the right direction. As I am now on long term sick and wish to keep the car then cost is important. Regards... Maldives.

Hi, I'am looking for some info on door mirrors for an esprit 2.2 se. remember seeing something about them on this site, but i never printed it off. ( like a fool ). I believe that the mirror from a citroen cx is the same. But cannot get hold of one. Also after a front offside suspension arm. is the one from the esprit compatable with one from another car. would try lotus dealers, but have had no luck in my dealings with them in the past! SO have lost faith! Tks Starbuck
