Car has not been used for 3 weeks so when I came to start it up it was not a surprise that the battery had run down. Connected jump leads from my main car but it would not start from these strangely enough. Whilst I was puzzling over the reason for this (there was still some juice in the battery cos the interior light was on and the battery is only a few months old), the alarm started to beep (feebly). Pressing the buttons on the key fob did not deactivate it but (assuming key fob battery u/s, though I think it's fine), it did not switch off when I used the touch key in the receptacle on the RH side of the steering column as per the "emergency disarming" bit i…

Might just be my paranoia playing up again... I've noticed recently that when sitting in neutral at the traffic lights I get a chugging noise, sounds just like a tractor, except quieter obviously. Put your foot on the clutch, and it sounds sweet again (well, as sweet as a 1200rpm idling 160 sounds) but take you foot of the clutch and it comes back. Only sometimes its louder than other times, it varies. The reason I'm also worried is that I'm getting some funny groaning/rumbling/heavy vibrations when engine braking. Again, drop the clutch and it goes away... Not sure if they're linked, its TADTS or I'm just being overly sensitive to the joys of no soundproofing…

Hi All, Greetings from bonnie scotland! I'm on holiday, and i have noticed a slightly disturbing knocking coming from the front end, it happens when i an travelling in a straight line, and stops when i turn the wheel either direction. It has a regular beat, ie. knock, pause, knock, pause, knock, with the pause always seeming to be the same length of time. I have a feeling it may be the track rod ends, but i am pretty uncertain. The rack was replaced recently, could it be loose? Any suggestions or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated before i hare back down the M6 at 90mph on Sunday. Thanks all Ian.

My drivers window has decided to part with the mechanism. The three clip's that look like they are glued to the glass have parted company. Any advise on how to go about re-fitting the glass, and what type of glue would i need. If it's a bit of a pig to do myself any idea of cost, and best place to take it. I'am in Stoke so would normaly go to Christopher Neil. Many thanks Paul

I've finally got pi55ed off with having to stick the trim back on the rear difuser, and having lost one piece, I've now removed the ali panel and am having it powder coated (black, to match the sexy new wheels). Anyone know of a place that I could get some new trim. Prefferable abit better then the quality that Lotus would supply. Many thanks Simon

So I can't find the threads on tyres for an S2. Down to a couple of mm left (enough for a 1st Lotus day - which I need to organises a.s.a.p.) so need to think about another set on the rear. Where do MLOCers buy their Bridgestone's? What can I expect to pay? Where's the best service? What do I have to watchout for to ensure I get the right spec tyre? Cheers

Orange Coolant? 1 2
by Sol- 20 replies

Just wondered if anyone knows where I can get an orange coolant to top up levels? All I know from the previous owner is that its a 4/5yr jobbie and its orange. Seems green and red are quite easy to find, but no one seems to know about orange. Also, does it need to be OAT? Can you mix colours? My regular mechanic said he hadnt heard of orange coolant and said that "Comma Red" would do the trick. Checked the bottle and no mention of OAT(as it reads on the coolant tank) and the colour is definitely different. Common sense told me not to put it in, but I might be being too anal. Can anyone help?

I have a girl interested in my car and she asked what size "big" wheels you can put on. I did tell her not to be so stupid but she is a bit of a "cruising queen" So, without upsetting the handling adversly, what size wheels and tyres can you get on a standard S1 (with S2 suspension?) Cheers Steve PS - please dont give me too much of a hard time!!!!

Thinking about getting a set of OZ wheels - cheaper than the lotus prices if poss and not fenced through ebay. It strikes me that the fronts are the odd size (6.5x16), while the rear are more normal 7.5x17. What is to stop me sourcing a pair of rears from a 'normal' wheel place - the first search I did came out at £180 a piece for 7.5x17 for OZ 'Supertourismo' wheels, which seem identical to the ones Lotus sells. Then source the odd sized fronts from Lotus. Lotus charge over £1000 for the set, so with only paying £360 for the rears, leaves £640 for the fronts - I'm sure they do not cost £320 individually - do they? Am I not looking at something completely …
