Cam Belt Failure 1 2

I think my cam belt has gone - which is nice! I already have an old Elan so I should have known better b4 buying another lotus! I have only had it 3 weeks. Pulled up to a junction last night and the engine died. No mechanical noise. Engine spins over but no compression or mechanical noise at all. All electrics are fine. It was going in for a service this tuesday anyway but not for a belt replacement. If it is the belt I know it will be expensive. Has anyone ever known a belt to fail without any resulting damage? Bugger! Good job I have a reliable Toyota motor as a standby - the new Elise engine should put this rover crap to shame.

Some advice please. This is the worst, not sure if it's reparable: http://www.bookatrack.com/-PG?simondan&230&17745&640 http://www.bookatrack.com/-PG?simondan&230&17746&640 The front has a tiny stone chip here: http://www.bookatrack.com/-PG?simondan&230&17747&640 Note to tech people (repeated from the polls thread): Why can't I insert an image, I've followed the BB code help to the letter, and still can't get the B@st@rd to work....

Hi all, On a 1st Lotus day I noticed a ticking noise coming from the engine (18k miles S2 135). It was there for 5 mins, then it would go away. Then it would come back again for a while. The oil level was a bit low so we thought that may be related so after the day I put a bit more in and never noticed it again (but also never abused it in the same way again either!) Anyway the ticking returned today, fortunately just as Mike from Horizon turned up to take the car away for it's service & geo (what an excellent service they provide by the way - they are also going to drop it off tomorrow night for me! Brilliant. ) He said it could be 'the cam followers'. …

Hi all, I am hoping to enter the world of lotus with my next car...Probably a 51 plated S2... Now its gonna be an everyday car, so its gotta be 'usable' obviously...Do i need to get the sports tourer version? I seen on www.whatcar.co.uk that average servicing costs are £3000 over 3 years, compared to my current £900 for my astra coupe turbo... Are S2's reliable? Should i get an extended warranty... And finally, insurance! what kinda money do u lot pay, where the best place, I got a quote from directline for £1100 (25yrs, 7yrs NCB, no pts, no claims) Sorry for all the questions! Please help...

whats the verdict on the S2s Wuddie ? Acid test is that nasty concrete stretch of the M42, tried it last Saturday..not a sound, a far cry from the old Konis which felt like an earthquake was going on.

Bit of a problem. When i put my heater on, blowing onto the screen, it steams it up. I'm thinking the heater matrix is knackered/leaking but i'm kinda hoping i'm wrong. Any body got any ideas? Are there any common heater related faults?

Guys, Whats this tube do? [the one hi lited in pink] Im guessing its feeding air into the airbox? It got a couple of rather large crackes in it [as indicated by the arrows] Notice a drop in power after sitting in traffic for a bit, so im guessing im just sucking warm air in from the engine bay? or am i way off the mark there? Only noticed it because i have a leaky head gasket, so im watching my levels, looking a little low in that shot... Thanx in advance... Spike

Need to sort out some new rear discs and pads for the elise. Its a standard S1 - 99T. Any ideas? The car only sees road use so nothing too exotic is needed. Cheers, Rich

Hi All, Would anyone out there who uses a cat bypass pipe be willing to lend me their cat (not for rats as i said in the title!) to get me through the MOT. My cat is either knackered or missing. I have a cat bypass pipe to put on after the test, but i don't really want to fork out £200 for something i'm not going to use. Beer tokens can be supplied in return for the loan. Thanks in advance, Ian

Does anyone know the best place to get a pair of light covers for a 160? Don't want to use Geary's as it involves those quick fixers and you have to drill the clam...I suppose I could ask NW but I bet they'll be expensive... Suggestions? Ta, Matt

Ay up Did a 150 mile journey in the pi55ing rain yesterday, and the throttle started sticking. Only did it 3 times on the entire journey but this is 3 more times than its ever done it before and I am obviously wondering why. Car is 99 S1, totally standard, 12k miles. When it stuck it did so at about 3k rpm, following fairly slow driving in traffic, and a sharp tap on the accelerator pedal cured it. Didn't show any signs of sticking at higher revs. Haven't done any tinkering yet - was gonna start by lubricating the cable and checking it isn't frayed. Has anyone else had this? What did you do to stop it? Cheers Andrew
