Recommend Somewhere In E Midlands To Do Soft Top Conversion On Exige?

Looking for someone to fit / cut out the two holes needed in the main roll hoop, to fit the roof supports when the soft top is on. (I think thats all that needs to be done?) Can anyone recommend someone to get it done?

And before I'm lynched I'm not planning on driving around with the soft top fitted, its just in case I take the roof out and get caught with no roof and a down pour, or have to park up somewhere

:)

Why not just do it yourself. Its a 5 minute job with a drill and a file/dremmel.

I wonder if you should have just bought an elise, it would have saved you the hassle of removing your rear wing, fitting a soft top...

Worried in case I muck it up :/ Prefer to pay someone who knows what they are doing, hoping as its only takes 5mins it would only be a £20 cash job, £20 well spent if its done right....

And there is more to an Exige than a hard top and rear wing! If thats all it was why do we pay so much more to own one??? :)

In any case, I much prefer it with the hard top, the soft top / remove hard top option is only for the odd sunny day I fancy a drive out with no roof, or a trip to the coast with the missus and the roof off means she'll consider the Exige rather than her car :)

(why when ever I even hint at taking the roof off this car do I end up having to defend my ownership of this bloody car??!! Never known anything like it!! )

Lol no you shouldn't, get a bloody Elise Mark you've bought the wrong car and don't be so touchy you big Seloc posting hairdresser.

Lol straight to the point! I've had three Elises. Even in just 3months of Exige ownership I can appreciate the Exige is more than just an Elise with a spoiler and a hardtop. I've definitely bought the right car :)

You could take it to gav in Burton...mines got this soft top conversion, I just haven't got a soft top...

If you do fancy doing it yourself its not too painful to do. We did ours as did Richbk. Just involves a bit of measuring, steady hand, dremmel and dustpan. I must admit when it came to cutting the car I did leave G to it for a minute, just in case lol. You may find the windows need adjusting slightly afterwards too.

I'm too chicken when it comes to cutting and drilling on the Exige goof.gif So I think I'll see if Gav can do this for me, seems to come very highly recommended

if you are not planning on driving it lots with the roof on, do you "need" the support bars?

I thought they were just there to stop it flapping about once the windows were open?

I know on mine, at any sort of speed the roof just lifts up off the support bars anyway?

Might create a bit of a puddle if parked up and raining hard without them, so you might need them, but just throwing it out there as an idea.

Probably not, as its an unlikely that set of circumstances will come up, but I'd prefer to have the peace of mind that if I do need to drive with it on its not going to flap about like a flappy thing. And lets face it, the Exige looks poo with a soft top fitted as it is.....

Not sure if you've done this yet mark, but really it's straight forward. I can send you measures if you wish. There is a dradful wiki on an American lotus site that looks like the guy did the cutting with a blunt axe, !! i madking taped the area i was working on then drew a profile of the gronmit that was to fit in hole. I used a small drill bit to mark corners and few guides then a fine hacksaw blade from b@ Q to join the dots. A bit of light filing and the masking tape removed all was good. Few minor marks near edge of holes ( 1/2 mm max) more than covered by the flange on the plastic fitting. Spot of superglue to hold in place and job done. 40 careful minutes and 0 cost.

Go on give it a try .....
