Can anyone please tell me if there is a Lotus specialist in the midland around Notts/Leic/Derby. (I know there is a dealership in Leics) Being a new owner I crashed the thing after 36 hours and had it fixed (not by Lotus) but it's not right still and would pefer a specialist had alook at it. Cheer Tony

Anyone know of any step by step guides on how to change S1 rear discs & pads? I'm a bit of a mechanical muppet but thought I'd have a go and can't find a guide on doing it. So far only a pad changing guide on Elisenet, which helps a bit...

Good Morning, Was having a look under my car (as you do) - and was having a look at the recent new red Koni's the previous owner fitted.. The springs are "Eibach" - i think thats how it was spelled.. Are these standard ? I'm saving up for S2 suspension anyway from Steve Butts ( advice from you lot, as Nitrons are way more than I need ) so this is just a random question really. Cheers !

I had just set off on a 3,000 mile 'Tour de France' this August, when, just 5 miles from home, the right front indicator on my Elise 111S pops right out of the body and starts flapping around in front of me - at 70 mph! Closer inspection showed that the plastic retaining clip that is part of the one-piece moulding had broken in half. This clip is the only thing holding the indicator in the body, so I had to tape it in place for the holiday. My car has covered 23K miles and both left and right indicators have broken clips. Has anyone else experienced this problem? If so, is there a fix, or do I need to buy new indicators, at about £50 each? If replacement is th…

Bugger. Just as I was singing the praises of my little toy it's gone and died on me. Driving down into Glossop there was an almighty hissing noise and no power. Switched it off straight away and coasted to the pub thinking about some catastrophic head gasket failure. But no. The hissing was from the exhaust, with smoke coming out of one pipe but not the other. The AA man said not to worry, it was just an exhaust leak, but luckily my smart girlfriend insisted I take him for a ride to show him how it sounded. "Woah" he said, "that's serious. Turn it off". It sounded like it had some massive turbo charger. Bloody good job I showed him, cos I was all set to drive on to Ma…

Hello Oh wise ones, I've let my soft top get into a terrible state. The stitching just seems to have rotted away, I've broken the plastic strip and even managed to rip the fabric of the hood itself. As you can see it's coming apart at the seams all over the place. Do you think it can be repaired? If so, how and where? Do I send it back to the factory or do I have to go through a dealer? Finally, any idea how long it will take? I'm leaving the country at the end of september so I need it done before then.

Mornin, I've got a 97 S1 Elise and every week the clutch pedal dries out and I have to get down in the footwell with some teflon spray lube stuff we've got in the garage. as soon as I spray it the clutch frees up and feels spot on, but then a week or so later its dry again I can't see how to lube it properly, I've only managed to get this spray stuff on it! could anybody help me with a more permanent solution as I'm fed up with lying in the footwell to sort it out on a weekly basis! thanks Paul

Engine light came on at the weekend for no obvious reason, took the car down to Stratstone (still under warranty) and they plugged it in and I had a missfire on all cylinders according to their gizmo. New coil pack, leads and plugs was the remedy which has been done (extended warranty paid for some of it but not all, bastards) but I couldn't get a real reason why it had happened. Some waffle about the coil pack being on top of the engine, heat, vibration, blah, blah. Design fault then? Anyways, has anyone else had similar? The car has done 21000 and in my onwership hasn't been trashed too much (honest). Bit concerned as the warranty is up at the end of the…

Ive just had a really good inspection of where water gets in on my car. Water gets in by the A pillar top corner, not because the window is not all the way up, as it is!!! Its because the window is not laying tight flat to the rubber side seals on the A piller. If the rubber seals were thicker and met flush with the window then there would be no water getting in at all. I need to cut some black foam and stick it on the rubber seal so that it is thick enough to meet flush with the window Seal not touching window Seal

I have just tried to change the pads on my S2. Fronts easy (apart from now needing buffer pads to stop the clunking at low speed), rears...well all I can say is that the service manual should be filed under "Fiction". I can remove the pins holding the pads in place but not for life nor money can I find enough room to remove the inboard pad. This then lead to me having to reinsert the outboard pad which then didnt fit because I could wind the piston back in and aaaaarrrgggghhhhh ensued. My only bright idea is to remove the lower bolt holding the caplier in place which may allow me to swivel the caplier up allowing me to free the pad. Has anyone overcome this …

Im thinking of replacing my 195/50 front Toyos on my S1 Elise for something thinner. Can anybody recommend a good, thin-looking 185/55 ? What are T1-Rs like in this size ? Has anyone fitted a 175 front to an S1 ? Also, from experience how long would people expect the S2 Bilstein dampers to last before sounding all "clonky" like the Konis ? Mine have done 4k now and sound pretty bad. Thanks JE

Fitted this afternoon! This was apparently "the very first" custom made Exige style diffuser done for the Elise. The guy I bought it off asked Martin Edwards to make him one which didn't stick out a mile from the back of the car. Apparently this was the prototype and has Lotus decals too. I think it looks great, but I know it's kind of a matter of personal opinion. What do you think?
