Hello everyone.

I went to Chatsworth on Tuesday and met with the event coordinator there. She was very nice and welcoming. The missus and I had a stroll in the gardens as well as a general look round. Even though I have been lots of times before I forgot just how nice it is there. There is plenty to see and do, and I am confident it will be a nice day out.

I now have a pretty good idea of the run route, but Simon (Itgivesyouwings) and I will be going out to finalise it in a couple of weeks. I will provide everyone with copies on the day. I might try and pm everyone with it aswell.

Be warned, it will be an early start. I am talking 7.30 probably, for one simple reason - the roads there get really busy on summer Sundays with dawdling tourists. The only way to enjoy relatively quiet roads is to get out early doors. Trust me, it is a sacrifice well worth making!

Leg one of the route will begin at Alfreton, and will be about 60 miles with one brief stop half way. It will finish at Hassop Station for breakfast, at 9.15 ish.

Leg two will commence at 10.15 ish, and will take in another 20 or so miles of glorious Derbyshire country roads and finish at Chatsworth at 10.45 - 11.00.

We all park in two rows, facing each other at either side of a lane next to the house. It is an ideal spot, close to the entrances to the house and gardens, and a little shop selling refreshments.

There is room there for 150 cars. The fee Chatsworth have fixed is £5 per car. I will ask for a volunteer or two to collect the cash on the day. They will also distribute a voucher that will entitle the bearer to a 1/3 discount (I think she said) to the house and gardens.

If anyone wants to park together, e.g the 3 or 4 sport 190 s2s we have coming, can you try and get yourselves together as you drive up towards the house to make it easier? It might even be better if you leave Hassop station together and run in convoy on leg 2.

After some admiration of the cars and a chinwag I expect people will do their own thing for a bit.

The picnic will be ready at 1.30, by a bend in the river to the right of the bridge as you approach it from the house. Those that wish to bring their own snap are welcome to, but Mrs B will be catering - it will be nice, I promise you, as she is a very good cook. The cost will be about £6.50 per person including a drink. It might be a little more, or a little less. Mrs B will work out what it costs her and will divide that figure by the number eating. I would ask everyone to pay her on the day.

Please bring at least one picnic type blanket per car, and any camping seats if you want to sit down. Golfing umbrellas to use as parasols might also be a good idea if it is sunny, although we hope to have shade nearby from some large trees.

There will of course be an MLOC birthday cake.

Laura (mrs G) is organising a raffle (and has scrounged at least one prize already) with profits going to site upkeep. The draw will be during the picnic.

There will be a competition for "car of the day". One vote per member, no rules or objective criteria, just pick your favourite and write it on the slip. Winner announced during the picnic.

An important point to note is that we cannot move our cars between 3.30 and 4.30 pm as there is a wedding on and the bride will pass between the two rows of our cars during that time (unless she thinks better of it and dumps him I suppose). We can move as soon as she has passed.

I had thought of organising a mini run to finish, but have decided against it on the basis that it will be too much for one day. People that are heading back in similar directions though may want to organise their own mini convoys...

Quite a few of you have given me your breakfast order. Thank you. The rest of you though need to let me know what they want for breakfast, including to drink. Sooner is better than later but we still have plenty of time. Remember breakfast is pay on the day at the cafe. Please also let me know if you don't want breakfast so I know to cross you off my list.

Similarly, can everyone please let me know if they want the catered picnic or will be bringing their own?

I have assumed that everyone on the attendee list above is coming on the run. If anyone isn't, please tell me so we don't wait in vain for you at the start.

That's all for now folks.

Dean

Phil having read Martin's comments about "project creep" on a seperate thread, I am not holding my breath for your car being back together in time! You are of course welcome to come along anyway. Someone will have a spare chair on the run I'm sure and you don't need your motor to eat a picnic ;)
