My doors won't stay open, which makes it near impossible to get in and out of the car. I've heard the door springs were rubbish on early S1's (mine's a late 97), and that you have to get at the spring via the wheel arch ??? Has anyone tackled this, or is this one for a pro (independant of course) . . I'm no mechanic by any means, but would rather have a go myself - I can't find the springs either (have tried Eliseparts and SJ Sportscars) . . Cheers, Alasdair

Had some vibration through the steering wheel above 50-60ish. Got the front wheels balanced which has improved the problem but not cured it. Seem to notice it more when the tyres are cold. I'm booked into Nick Whales for new tyres (again !!!!) Thursday week, but with the Zandvoort trackday coming up this Friday and no time to get them rebalanced before then, I'm curious for another opinion as to if this is due to the wheels being incorrectly balanced ? Ta.

My mate bought a S160 last year. It's been fine over the winter, except a couple of months ago the engine started to pick up revs of it's own accord, as if the automatic choke was kicking in when not required. So he took it back to Nick Whale a few weeks ago, which seemed to have sorted it, except now it's started stalling on him at random, for example when approaching a junction, pressing the clutch in and instead of the engine revs dropping to tickover, it just stalls. Anyone had anything similar? He'll be taking it back to Nick Whale but just wondered if this was common on the S160? I've heard there's some sort of driveability upgrade available for the S160 - how …

Following on from discussions on the Donnington thread..... Looks like we may have a couple of MLOC guys (Nick Gee and Martin R) that can make nylatron bushes for the gear linkage. It's been said that the Eliseparts linkage upgrade kit is good but the only real benefit comes from replacing the standard rubber bushes with harder nylatron ones. So what does everyone reckon if we can get some made, would you be interested?

Hey. I'm going to be doing about 600 commuter miles a week in my standard(ish) S1 elise this summer. Does anyone know the optimum crusing speed for fuel economy. 80 in fith feels about right on the throttle yet I've heard it said that 55 is the norm for an average car. Anyone? Cheers, Adam.

Hi all , Im thinking about getting a Quickshifter for my S1 elise to improve the gear change, but I am unsure on how hard they are to fit or even how long it takes? Does anyone know how to fit them or have any instructions on how to do it? Thanks

Uhmm, errr, ahem, gulp .... I had a slight mishap in the car and need to get it sent off for repairs. Looks like passenger sill, door, rear clam, and a back wheel that turns left/right just like my front ones, cool. Not. Any recommendation on where to send it? I've heard Hallcraft are pretty good, but is there anywhere else that people recommend? Thanks, Doofus

Bought an Elemental Shower Cape from the Club Lotus stand for my S1 Elise at Donny - tried to fit it tonight & I've got a suspicion that it is for an S2! The rear of the shower cape has three elasticated hooks which obviously are for attaching to something - but there's nothing on my S1 at the rear to attach to! Anyone help out? Cheers Mark
