Okay - I got my lovely S1 last Tuesday and have been tooteling around the country roads each night. Then on Sat morning I went out in what I would describe as drying conditions - no standing water, just a bit wet. I get to a left hand corner (slightly off camber) and the front end washed out (under steer) which I corrected (over corrected slightly admitedly) and before I know it I am pointing in the opposite direction and then sliding sideways into the hedge. Thankfully, only damage is a cracked front number plate and a slight scratch on the rear left wheel arch. Still drives fine (I think) but is very light on corners in the wet (dangerously so in my view). I h…

Okay, following on from my last thread I have now diagnosed that the inboard ball joint on the rear driver side toe link is to blame for the annoying squeeking noises that happen when the joint gets warm. I can easily feel the toe link clicking when the car is bounced up and down. I haven’t any idea what the cyclic clicking sound is that comes from the same wheel especially when cornering (no it’s not a stone in the tyre). I know the discs need replacing, but I’m not sure whether this is related. So, based on this what is my best course of action. I’ve had the wheel off and had a look at the gubbins but I don’t think I’m up to taking it all to bits myself un…

Hi All, I need to remove my rear undertray, Cat, and Exhaust . . I thought I may as well go about replacing just about every possible screw and fastner to stainless (a mate has already tried and failed to get the rear undertray off - rusted on ! ). Some dude is doing a full stainless box of elise nuts/bolts/fixings (500 pieces ?) for about £30 on Ebay - Do you think this is worth it ? Once it's off, is a cat replacement pipe fairly easy to fit with basic ramps? (bearing in mind I have no instructions, fitting Kit, or gaskets). . Would the eliseparts £15 kit that they sell with their de-cat pipe make this much easier than sourcing the individual bits and …

Guys & Gals I've recently noticed a rather annoying draft coming from an area around the centre 'console'. I've closed all of the vents and checked the fans are off and it makes no difference... ...yet the draft disappears when I turn the fans on? It isn't a problem when the weathers sunny and warm, but is really noticeable when its not (i.e. 80% of the time!). To add to this, I have enough difficulty getting my other half to passenger with me, so I'd like to get it sorted before she notices! How do you think I should fix this - please don't suggest wearing an extra jumper or getting new other half! Also, S1 owners who think that having a problem 'wit…

OK, I think I'm finally going to attempt to stop my brakes from squealing. I've got some of those anti squeak pads that Mike from Horizon gave me and I'm going to go outside and have a play with the calipers after lunch. Anything I should know before I start?

Break off as much of the lens cover as possible from the centre of the cover, taking care to protect your eyes from splintering polycarbonate. Ensure that you leave sufficient leverage to enable you to prise the edges from the Sikaflex, especially on the sections nearest to the indicators, and nearest the top of the wing. Once the cover is removed, take a thin strip of wood/lollypop stick and sharpen the end to a chisel point so that you can scrape away the Sikaflex without scratching the paintwork. Once you've chiselled as much away as possible, rub in ethanol or methylated spirits with a cloth. After a good rubbing, go back to the wooden chisel and start all over ag…
