Crusing Speed / Economy

Hey.

I'm going to be doing about 600 commuter miles a week in my standard(ish) S1 elise this summer. Does anyone know the optimum crusing speed for fuel economy. 80 in fith feels about right on the throttle yet I've heard it said that 55 is the norm for an average car.

Anyone?

Cheers,

Adam.

It's not bothered me untill now, the economy is great anyway and is the reason I'm sticking with the elise for the miles this summer. I guess is is a bit anal though :D .

Cheers,

Adam.

I live in Derby and work in Manchester. Though I don't do the trip everyday, I do an average of about 600 miles a week motorway munching. I find the difference between 80 and 90 is quite dramatic in consumption and try to stick to about 85. Providing you are keeping a constant speed (and not darting in and out of traffic and racing BMWs) I find 85 is a happy compromise between fuel economy and getting from A&B in less than 3 days!

What I've made up for in fuel economy I have lost in needing to replace my speakers though - very noisy!

yup..very anal :(

Just experiment. At the end of the day your not going to drive at 55MPH just to get an extra 25 miles are you ??

90 mph isn't comfortable in an elise really. 80mph is my choice of speed. You'll prob get an extra 5% econcomy doing 70mph but its just too slow IMHO

Ive never got under 200 miles for a tank and never over 250 miles regardless of speed/accelerating.

Not worth thinking about really. It'll do better than most petrol engines and not as good as diesel engines

SEOT :(

Road speed is not something usually to do with maximising mpg when you have an Elise, rather maximising the fun. Spend the extra few quid on juice and enjoy yourself, before the government bans fun.
