Greetings like minded folk, I've had an elise for just over a year now but have only recently joined MLOC! (didnt know about it til now), my car is a completely standard 1998 Mk1 with no mods and 20k on the clock. I bought it cos I thought it was a totally original low mileage example with an FLSH and I just loved it. However now I've been "umming" and "aarring" about whether to get some kind of performance upgrade or not. My question is, if I modify the car, am I likely to devalue it? and if not then what kind of stuff should I be thinking about doing as a novice (and with whom) bearing in mind that I'm on a bit of a budget and would not want to spend thousands.... …

You may be able to help me ? I own a LOTUS Elise date of registration 2000 on an X plate (The last one of that particular series) I think I have a problem with the security alarm. When I enable it with the key fob the indicators flash twice and then a continuous audible alarm is heard from within the car. I'm sure it used to flash three times and then set the alarm. (SORRY THE CARS BEEN WRAPPED UP IN MOTH BALLS FOR A GOOD WHILE NOW) Its the same audible alarm that can be heard if the battery is running low... If you leave the audible alarm sounding inside the car when the immobiliser kicks in 25 seconds later the actual car alarm goes off as t…

As part of my ongoing hunt for my first Elise, I have encuntered a nicely priced S1 that has had a 135 upgrade performed on it by a reputable company. Is there anything I should know about cars that have had this done? i.e. are there any known problems that might put me off buying it? Rob

My hurricane induction is due to be fitted by Horizon in the next couple of weeks. Any thoughts on how this might improve the overall bhp?

Some time ago I registered with Irwin Mitchell with regard to the HGF I had with my S1 at about 30k miles. Have just recieved details from them saying MG R have accepted there may be a claim and they will look at individual cases: Our Ref: AJO/JLW/632790-5 (LS) 19 October 2004 Dear Group Member MG ROVER AND LAND ROVER K SERIES I am pleased to report that there have been two major developments in these claims. They are: 1. We have completed our sample review exercise with a barrister, which has enabled us to provide guidance as to good, moderate and weak claims, as well as the losses which are potentially recoverable, from a legal perspective. 2…

I picked up my first Lotus on Saturday, an S1 111s. What can i say but It has however led to my first daft question. At low speed there is a light tapping when going over drain covers, potholes etc. This appears to be coming from the front suspention. It all but disapears at higher speeds I think i read some where this could be coming from a dryly assembled front roll bar. Is this true ? Your comments would be much appreciated. Ta in advance.

just bought a second had k and n air filter in a custom box with some huge ducting as well. Comments made elsewhere have made me think..is there any point in fitting it ?? I want a little bit of noise and am not too bothered about an extra couple of bhp. Should I take it out of the housing and run it on its own ? or will the hot air from the engine really slow me down I took the housing off my old S2000's filter and it created a huge roar which i liked and on anything but a hot day (not many of them then) performance diff was marginal. Dave..I know you have a k and n -any thoughts? or anyone else ?

As the title says - I don't get my 111s for a couple of months yet but I live on an estate with some really nice traffic humps. Bloke across the road sold his 360 modena because it wouldn't clear them properly - will I have the same problem??? Matt

The list of bits dropping of the Orange beasty continues. I'm sure this is because the car was laid up for so long in the showroom before I bought it. Latest problem, as I mentioned to Scott at the 'P' stop on the Worcester run, the fan is not kicking in - 105 degrees on that day. I've run the engine, pulled the brown sensor connector of and - Jack sh1t - nowt - nothing - chuff all. No fan, no fan noise, no noticable drop in amperage. Runs high about 1000rpm even when hot without the sensor connected, plug it back in and the revs drop to normal idle speed. So, assuming the sensor is ok. Booked in with Mike at Horizon on Monday to investigate further, but I…

My engine management light has come on today after picking the car up yesterday from the dealers. A quick phone call to the dealers and I was told it is a common problem on the S2 and it should sort itself out after approx 30 mins. I left it 2 hours, turned the car over, and the thing is still on?? Any one else who owns an S2 spread any light on the matter??
