After shelling out 800 quid on a c service on my Elise, I was kindly given a list of other work required. Namely New handbrake cable - one side only. Refurbished steering rack needed. New roker cover gasket. Drivers windon felt in channel needs replacing. It's all foreign to me as I know little about mending cars, just know it's bloody expensive!!! As I am now skint I wanted to find a friendly garage that could help keep my girlfriend off my back. Looking for someone decent in or around the West Midlands, any help would be welcome. Cheers...

Hi, Finally after a few years of wanting one I have picked up my S1 Elise. Couple of things I would like help with please. 1. I have a decat pipe given to me from the owner, cat is currently fitted for its MOT prior to sale! I am keen to put on but does this make much noticeable difference?? 2. It has a K&N induction kit... seen some posts about this. It has a intake pipe coming from side vent but sounds like this may still not be a great solution as I imagine its getting much warm air. So whats the Induction Kit to get? Where and how much? 3. Where can I buy acc. such as carpeted mats, clear indicators? 4. Finally saw that Horizon have very c…

Finally got round to fitting Marks poly gear link bushings. Have to say that they rank as my No.1 value for money (or bang-for-buck as the Yanks say) upgrade. Huge improvement to shift feel for next to nothing. Thanks Mark! Andy

Hi All, I shall hopefully be picking up my Elise soon but the insurance company require a tracker to be fitted to the car. I did a quick search (forum) but it didn't come back with anything definitive. Can anyone suggest a good and reliable place to go? I would kinda prefer it to be in the Warwick or Birmingham area, but ultimately it probably doesn't matter

In the process of moving house I have managed to lose the screws which attach the hard top just underneath the top of the windscreen. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get some replacements or how I would go about establishing the part number so I can order some more. Thanks in advance Nigel

Hi folks My trusty S1 needs its floors sorting, so I was wondering if there's somewhere to get it done in the Loughborough area? I'm in Sheffield so I'm a bit stuck for a local dealer who isn't a complete numpty. The Nyloc folks recommended JCT in Leeds, which would be OK but if the car needs to be in overnight it could be a tad inconvenient. The Leicester area (especially Loughborough) would be much easier cos my lady friend lives there. Is there a local dealer who you'd trust to do the work and not make a mess of the car in the process? Thanks in advance

Interior Trim 1 2
by waxometer- 17 replies

Recently acquired a standard S1 and can now see what all the fuss is about. As with every S1 I've seen, the black cloth pad on the drivers sill trim is wearing a bit on the rear edge. Where's the best place to get this sorted and how much is it likely to cost? Do people get the whole trim (incl leather) replaced or just have the cloth repaired, or not bother as it's cosmetic? Also don't know whether my front shocks need replacing as all my test drives seemed to be on smooth roads, yet my local drives are on unclassified or B's. Are there any static tests that I can do? I have read that they sound like snooker balls bouncing off one another when they're shot, but t…

My car has JUST scraped through the MOT today, front numberplate isn't 90 degrees (It's velcro'd to the clam - no plinth), and the emissions are very borderline . . I re-fitted the CAT yesterday, but loads of metal was falling out of it, kind of like metal filings? Could I have damaged it? It's been all over the place in my boot, and more recently to quickfit to get the studs pressed out . . It's coming back off at the weekend anyway - just wondered thats all

Does anyone know where I get my hands on some S2 Elise front spot lights. My Elise doesn't have those and I feel the front really misses the look. I'm guessing and hoping the spotlights would help with the appauling headlight beam. I have been quoted £350 inc labour and parts by Kelvedon Spalding

I have seen some photos of someones 340r alloy wheels on their S1...looks really smart...i will try and post a pic below! But...there are 2 types that you can buy...the original mags which sell for over £1000 (2nd hand!) or the alloy type which Lotus gave out with quite a few 340r's because they ran out of mags...had to send them out to the owners later on! The alloy type are £500 per set...without tyres obviously. Is it worth the extra money for the mag type...anyone out there got some...had any problems with them. I have heard that they can getted totally f**ked if you hit a pot hole or kerb hard...and will then have to buy another wheel as can't be fixed if a bad kn…

as the title says, this may be of no use - I don;t know how far North you all live.. Anyway, I've just got my car back from Heaton Park Coachworks, Newcastle Upon Tyne, and I can't believe the result. Door and wing mirror re-spray, the finish is like titanium glass if there is such a thing. . . Perfect ! The bloke served his time with Porche, and has been sub_contacted by Lotus Formula One up here for years..... He also did a load of machine polishing and some touch up stuff for free. . . . Before and after hopefully should be attached below ...
