Hi Guys, Recently purchased a set of 135 cams to go in my standard 1.8k (2001 S2). I'm no mechanic but i've done most things on this car but never anything inside the engine (changed the belt and waterpump but that's outside!) Part of me thinks that I'd try and carefully muddle through, but I wondered if anyone who has done it before would be kind enough to assist / oversee? I'm really set on doing it myself rather than giving the car to a garage as I'm always trying to learn and improve my skills but as this is the first time delving into the engine I'd love a bit of a safety net! I'm happy to exchange some of my skills for the help, for exam…

My Elise s1 111s is currently sorn and stored in the garage connected to a trickle charger, however, I have noticed that the alarm light on the dash is occasionally illuminated. I disable the immobiliser, turn on the ignition and the light extinguishes. But it may be illuminated the next time I check the car. Thoughts on what is causing this? Thank you.

The CD player on the original factory headunit isn't working so I would like to upgrade, therefore what would you recommend? I am not looking for apple car-play, MP3, etc. Looking for CD player, FM radio ideally just a plug and play swap. The original owner of my Elise recommended Alpine as the best brand, but I am leaning towards a Blaupunkt since they had a good reputation (not sure if that is still applicable) and I like the look, not too blingy. Appreciate that the sound quality isn't going to be significantly improved unless there was other upgrades, speakers, amp, etc. Thoughts / recommendations.

Hi all, I've just joined the forums, having re3cently purchased a Lotus Emira. I'm struggling to get USB music working as I would like. I have a large collection of both Flac and MP3 music files on a 32GB USB. They are organised in folders named after the album titles. On most cars I've ever owned they play each album in turn in alphabetical order of the album title, which works out perfectly for me. In the root directory of the USB I also have an AllMusic playlist file I can select if the car doesn't automatically play in folder order. In addition all the MP3 tag information for each file is complete with Artist, Album, Genre, Track Number, Cover Art, etc.. so whe…

Hi I am looking at an 04 VVC engined S2. The head gasket was replaced in 2019. Do they fail more than once? Does it depend on who did it and how it was done? Thank you

Hello everyone, This site has already helped me a lot for my quest to get a S1 Stack gauge working in K series engine swap Mini. Me and my friend have used pinout diagrams found here to work out the lights like indicators, oil warning etc. The tach works off the ECU (Mems2J) signal but the speedo has us utterly stumped. We found information suggesting the signal needs to be 10.14hz per MPH and that the stack dash takes a signal directly off the speed sensor and not off the ECU. As I understand the speed sensor is a hall effect with toothed trigger wheel. I have tried sending it square waves, sine waves in various frequency ranges at 0-5v but nothing moves the n…

Hi my first post. 3 years with elise 111s. Has anyone any advice on fixing wing mirror plinth back on to door? The n/s wing mirror on my lotus 111s has come loose at the point where the mirror plinth attaches to door. Looking at lotus manual it suggests may be able to access the 2 fixing screws that protrude vertically from the door via slot for internal door handle using flexidrive Tried that unsuccessfully. Manual suggests that removing doorshell gives better access but that looks like a job beyond my limited ability ( I'm thinking getting door alignment right when replacing might be tricky) and also I can't see that the access to the screws is that much easier even if…

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good floor mat supplier? My Exige mats are looking very tired and need replacing.

Well I finally got round to replacing the sagging headlining on my Exige. The end result was very pleasing but it was way more work than I'd imagined... The easy bit was removing the old foam backed fabric. Then I was left with two issues. Firstly removing all that glue from the fibreglass without damaging it. Probably about 10 hours of scrubbing and applying autoglym tar remover. I was so fed up of this task but the recommended use of a wire wool or drill with sanding disc did not appeal. Secondly, the previous owner had drilled a hole in the roof to mount a go pro. So that needed filling with fibreglass. Not a straightforward repair as there was no acces…

I purchase my Elise s1 111s last October with a relatively low mileage (around 27000). If I am being honest, I really wanted an Exige s1, but far too expensive for my budget, next choice was an Elise s1 160, but again a bit more than I could justify. Therefore, the quandary: should I keep the s1 standard or upgrade? I have been down the modifying route many (many) years ago with motorbikes, and with hindsight I should have just kept the bike standard, it can soon become a money pit with diminishing returns. Thoughts, what have you done with your Elise (s1, s2 and s3)/Exige (s1, s2)?

So, I did a Forum 'service' and 'servicing' search, but couldn't find much about the topic specifically. So thought Id kick one off instead. Servicing. Self or Garage? Lotus are renowned for the servicing required. Lots of specialists out there, and it does come at a premium. But... Changing things like oil, filters, brake/clutch fluids etc, are pretty much the same on a Lotus as on most other combustion engines. The Lotus Service Guides have the full list of things to cover too, but the garage doing it will cost. Yes, it does help having a FSH, but there are plenty of mechanically minded and able owners out their who service their own vehicles. I once…

As title I purchased last year a 1999 Elise s1 111s and earlier this year an OEM hardtop. I searched YouTube for a video of installation without success, but ideally would like to see how it is done before having a go - any recommendations?

At last!! The surfboard that was fitted to the front of my Exige has gone!! Replaced with a standard splitter. IMHO it looks so much better. I’m looking forward to not hitting every bump in the road on the run out Sunday morning.

My Exige S does not have the little button on the LHS of the steering column to manually switch the exhaust from normal to loud! Does it do this automatically when it gets over a certain rpm? Or do I have a non-switchable exhaust (if such a thing exists?) Would dearly love my car to sound like the Evora GT410 I followed a few weeks ago. 😛
