Guido Posted July 13 Posted July 13 (edited) My Exige S does not have the little button on the LHS of the steering column to manually switch the exhaust from normal to loud! Does it do this automatically when it gets over a certain rpm? Or do I have a non-switchable exhaust (if such a thing exists?) Would dearly love my car to sound like the Evora GT410 I followed a few weeks ago. 😛 Edited July 13 by Guido Quote
CDM2018 Posted July 13 Posted July 13 My Evora doesn’t have said button it’s called a Sports , but I was told your right foot acts as a suitable replacement ? But I guess an additional exhaust and changes to manifolds etc will give you a beefy sound note but if you track you will need to keep to specific sound limits ? Quote

Mine has a Larini, gentle throttle its nice and calm, quiet even as the revs go up, but more throttle, heavier acceleration, it becomes nice and loud. It must be to do with the flow (less the rpm). Droned a bit on the motorway though. 😔 Quote

They do some for yours....https://www.larinisystems.com/collection/lotus/exige-s-v6 looks like these have a switch option.... 1 Quote
Solution MG4Lotus Posted July 15 Solution Posted July 15 (edited) Hi Guido Just had a quick check on DeRoure for the Exige V6 S Parts Shop - Bell and Colvill If you have silencer item 1 I think it doesn't have the valve. If you have item 1a or 1b then that should have the valve (item 17). If you do have the valve it may have a vacuum pipe that is linked to the air box, in which case I think the valve may be closed at low revs and open at higher revs. You may also be able to link this to a switch on the dash and an actuator. If you have the valve but no pipe then the valve will be permanently open at all revs. I have the sport exhaust with the valve and no vacuum pipe on my Evora. Mark Edited July 15 by MG4Lotus 1 Quote
smithpaulg Posted July 18 Posted July 18 the switchable exhaust came with the race pack on the v6s 1 Quote

duncx Posted July 18 Posted July 18 I could be wrong but I thought that all of the V6S cars have the switchable exhaust, it's just that you need the Race Pack to have the button on the column to manually open the exhaust. Non-race pack cars should still automatically 'open' the exhaust when you hit 4K revs - this is so that excessive ehaust back pressure does not cause problems for the engine when it's working hard. The 'closed' exhaust is needed at low revs so that the car could get through EU type approval - at that time they only tested noise levels at lower revs It's not unusual for the exhaust valve to stick either open or closed, more commonly it stays open because that is the default position without vacuum, and the vacuum actuator itself can fail. It's also possible that a previous owner has disconnected the vacuum supply pipe (you also need to bung up the supply hole on the charger) to keep the valve open all the time - this is a common mod! With the exhaust open it definitely sounds better but sadly it will still not sound like a 380/390/410 Exige, these cars have a different (much louder!) back box. If you really want to make it howl then your easiest option is a valved 2bular. These are a fantastic exhaust but they aren't cheap and the supplier/manufacturer can be a bit of a character to deal with Here's an old MLOC thread with a few snippets of info. Also, if you head over to TLF and/or SELOC and do a search you will find plenty of threads on this very subject. https://www.midlandslotus.co.uk/forum/topic/66353-exige-v6-exhaust-valve-working/ Quote
Guido Posted September 13 Author Posted September 13 I’ve managed to track down a used 2bular exhaust. Not valved so will be a little ‘fruitier’ than standard. Let the fun begin! Quote
