jonnyfox
Well a quick update, no images. Ran it in over the back end of summer. Took it to Gav for an oil change, found two very minor leaks from the gearbox and oil pump. May need a new rear off side bearing, not completely sure but on the whole a few more miles wouldn't hurt. Honestly it drives beautifully, it's so bloody lovely but I fear I will be selling it next year once I consider it perfect. I won't go mad with the price but I don't want to be the guy who never drives it, nor do I want to be the guy that clocks up the miles. So a bit of a catch 22 I guess. I'm going to leave it to someone else to make that choice. Exciting though because I'll get to find another Lotus and enjoy that too. I will end this thread a some point with some really classy images as I want all the memories fully intact.

There can’t be another S1 Exige as nice and well restored as yours out there, why not keep it and simply do say 500-1000 miles a year in it - happy medium? You get to enjoy all your hard work but don’t ruin it or like you say, clock up the miles...

Dr H
This seems to be quite a common theme with people who spend ages restoring / building cars! Maybe the fun and interest is all in the building and that's what you love doing. The OH thinks I'll be the same with the Stratos and once it's built I'll not want to use it. A couple of fellow LB builders have sold very soon after completion. Either way someone will get an amazing car Jonny!
jonnyfox
I just can't make my mind up, honestly I do love my Exige. I'm just a little scared to drive the bloody thing, add the miles and well, make it not so pretty I had a couple of days to give it a good clean before hibernation, it really is one shiny car inside and out. I took the opportunity to finally clean the underside of the chassis, this was always a job I wanted to do last but enough was enough. I even stuck on new jacking stickers, yep properly went to town lol. I also finally fitted the alternator cooling hose which only required a couple of cable ties and a little bit of metal work fabrication of an aluminium bracket. Quite straightforward really. Oh and I also bought a dehumidifier As it stands I'll have it shipped off to Gav early new year to rectify the oil leaks, both minor. Fairly sure since nipping up the bolts on the oil pump that one is sorted. The gearbox is but a tiny seal which can be done on the hoist. Thanks to 'Dredge" btw for letting me nose around his beauty while at Gav's to see how and where the cooling pipe is fitted. Sleepy time..... The Cakes
No problem Les! Haha! Car looks great as ever. Do you need to sell this to fund the next? If not just tuck it away and let it appreciate. I’m 99% sure you’d regret it. Maybe keep it for a year and see how you feel, far too early in your relationship to make such decisions

Dr H
I'm with you on the dilemma. When you've spent so much time and effort making it perfect, it will only get 'imperfect' as you use it

The Cakes
Doesn’t even bear thinking about what the labour charge would have added to the above if you hadn’t done most of it! Jesus wept!! I’m guessing £30/40k for that list above!?!?! Worth every penny
Dr H
C'mon Jonny you must have an idea - you just don't want to admit it . I'm in a similar situation with the LB build but I've kept a VERY detailed spreadsheet! Having said that, I'm never going to admit what I've spent on it .
