Good idea. I will probably be there and will be happy to take you for a spin in my s2. If Fish and Des (Jumpjet) are there with their mint s1s you will be reassured that the build quality of s1s is actually pretty good.

Thanks for the offers. I will try my best to attend this. Looks like the best way to compare different models.

Don't rule out a 111r, I absolutely love mine, the sound and pull from the yota engine on second cam makes it for me. I don't think I'd be dissatisfied with any variant. If I had the money I'd own a few !

I'll be at the next meet also hopefully in my S2 111S.

You really need to drive a few as it'll make your mind up straight away. If it wasn't an everyday car I would of looked at S1's also. I had my heart set on a 111R until I drove one back to back with the 111S.

Toyota S2 if it is a daily drive. Yes, the engine is heavier, but I guess that what you get if you don't want the thing to blow up! It's my only car, so I can't afford to have it fail on me.

Walshy drove me round Blyton the other day - no it doesn't understeer if you know what you are doing!!! Ignore clarkson.

I think they did a lot more crash tests on the S2 for the USA market. I personally can't see much structurally different between the S1 and S2, but there must have been improvements made after the crash tests. Again, all counts towards it being a bit more grown up.

Remember, you are buying it for the chassis. S1, S2, S3 or V6 exige - all the same chassis.

Luckily for me it will not be my daily drive.

A S1 will be complete luxury compared to my current toy.

My next question is which engine version? It will likely be the K series, but which is more tuneable?

Are you best with a standard engine to tune or pay extra for the vvc engine to tune? What other differences are there between a 111 and standard? I have also heard that the S2 has a close ratio box? Does this make much difference?

Sorry for all the questions.

s2 120bhp k series - close ratio - amazing box

s2 156bhp vvc - longer ratio (aimed to improve motorway drive) - not my cup of tea

but yet again its all preferance.

Is this the same for the S1?

What is the S1 box like compared to the S2 close ratio?

Is the gear change more positive with a S2 compared to a S1?

Are the S2 boxes interchangeable with the S1?

Posted

all boxes should be interchangeable as they are all the same engines.

never driven and s1 so wouldnt be able to answer
