Chris_edeson Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 After hearing gossip about not being insured on an elise under 40, i emailed them and got this today Chris, Unfortunately this is correct. Due to a very high number of claims made by drivers under 40 on the Lotus Elise Aviva have now put a stop on us insuring these drivers. You will received notice at least 4 weeks prior to your renewal advising this in writing. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. Regards Jennifer Parry Competition Car Insurance
M@r]{ Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 I think this is worrying to anyone insuring an Elise. I would have thought that all insurers will have seen this increase in claims, most calculate their premiums based on a Risk Model that I suspect they all use. So does this mean premiums are going to start to rise steeply for Elise owners? (not just under 40s, everyone?) Silver lining for those looking to justify buying an Exige is they are probably going to be easier / cheaper to ensure
Stik Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Pfft, as if the insurance companies will ever pass those savings on! Bastards, the lot of them, they'll just use it as an excuse to put Elise premiums up and pocket the difference!
Addz Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Hmm I got a letter from Admiral the other day saying there will be upcoming changes to my policy soon?
russelld Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 My premium came down a chunk this year with CCI. One of the good things about being 40++++
Alex B Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 This isn't good, when I spoke to them a few weeks ago the under 40 thing was all to do with track days. If it is the case that they won't be insuring drivers under 40 at all then I will possibly move my policy early to ensure I can still get insurance.
Alex B Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Have just got off the phone with Cci as I wanted to find out first hand what the craic is; Due to a 30%increase in claims by drivers of standard lotus elise between the age of 30 to 40 aviva and Cci have made changes to the under writing. This is specific to Cci and not any other companies. It may change in the future however, it won't happen any time soon.
R.I.B. Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 I've just turned 30 so I wonder if CCI will quote me an insane figure when I give them a try again? They tried to bump it up from 400 to 800 last year because I commuted to work, so I ended up going with REIS for 400 ish. I also had to fight to get my 9 years NCB proof from them because they only honour up to 5 years even though when I first went with them they said they would honour my previous NCB if I was to leave.

They wont insure u full stop if ur under 40!
scatty Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Chris, you've had it "boom ting" for too long... ;-) They must be losing a shit load of business.
Chris_edeson Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 this could be the difference in me keeping the car or not :-( i have never had a quote less than £1k with all the other "specialists" CCI was a dream come true with the low premium and was the reason i could afford the initial elise. iv just got in from work and sent emails off to Manning who iv heard good things about on seloc.... i have also emailed REISS are there any more??
Alex B Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 That exactly what the girl on the phone said earlier. Those under 40 will just have to take business somewhere else.
a7esk Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 There must be a good market for somebody out their to do deals on responsible club members car insurance . Normally at the club lotus show this weekend is a insurance company which are be asking for a quote .
