pablo_paul Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 This could bugger me up as well being 34. I'm going to email Matt at Henderson Taylor my policy is with them which is Aviva/CCI. My Elise isn't standard but only mild stuff so i assume i will be caught by this as well. Mental. I always thought 34 was old in driving terms i certainly don't take the risks i did when i was in my 20's

scatty Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Looks like ill be selling the Elise and buying an exige as Cci have said if I owned an exige they could cover me Why does that make sense. They won't insure you on an elise, but will on an exige..... Barmy!!!
chrislane Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 I'm tempted to change mine for an evora after seeing andy's tonight. Obviously its not worth thinking too hard about the logic in spending double on the car to save on insurance!
M@r]{ Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Why does that make sense. They won't insure you on an elise, but will on an exige..... Barmy!!! Its these bloody insurance companies relying on Risk Models entirely without applying any common sense. "Computer Says No" Other examples I've heard: premium is higher if you have a Tracker or you keep your car in a garage! Their risk models show you're more likely to have your car stolen if the above. Apply common sense and it's obviously because the cars with Trackers and kept in garages tend to be more desirable, not that keeping them in a garage or fitting a tracker increases the risk of them being stolen. It's ludicrous.
R.I.B. Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Hit the nail on the head there Mark... Common sense! Unfortunately it's a rare thing!!! It's also common sense that someone who has owned an elise for a few years and has a few years NCB regardless if they are under 40 or not has much less chance of crashing than someone who has just decided after owning low powered cars all thier life is going to jump in an elise and think they're the next Lewis Hamilton.
M@r]{ Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 The other one that grinds my gears are non fault claims: Scenario: I approach a roundabout and some clown hits me up the @rse. 100% the other party is to blame, it goes through their insurance nice and clean cut. However next year my premiums go up Why? Because according to the statistics it shows you are more likely to claim on your own insurance if you have been involved in an accident even if its not your fault. It's unbelievable! Ok so the statistics may show more claims by those who have had non fault claims but the figures have to sway one way, they have no bearing on each other whatsoever If/when I'm hit by someone else and its their fault, I'm going to push my insurance to claim off their the amount they estimate my premium to rise for the next 5 yrs. Not sure it would be successful or not but I want to ensure that if someone hits me I'm not out of pocket in any way!

pablo_paul Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Well got my renewal at last and last year it was around £380 now gone up to WOW £550 . will be shopping around at the weekend . Eddie . Mine was about that with f all mileage, 33 , without commuting, garaged overnight, but that also included a trip through a hedge a few years ago. So unfortunately i'm one of those people thats probably pushing aviva over the edge. current thread on Seloc has more info http://forums.seloc.org/viewthread.php?tid=359610 It looks like Matt at HT is trying to sort something out.
Alex B Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Cci mentioned about looking into changing underwriter
a7esk Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 No mention of that to me yesterday . So if I take out going to work , miles to 4000 It drops down to £316 from £500 ish and they say specialise in sports cars insurance it needs sorting out very quickly . Ed
fentuz Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 {' timestamp='1366182399' post='246941']Other examples I've heard: premium is higher if you have a Tracker or you keep your car in a garage! Apply common sense and it's obviously because the cars with Trackers and kept in garages tend to be more desirable, not that keeping them in a garage or fitting a tracker increases the risk of them being stolen. It's ludicrous. When I was in Sheffield, Chris knott would not insure unless garage. In some other area (with many pensionners), if garaged, the premium is worse. They say people in that area tend to claim for bodywork damage done while getting in or out the garage... So as always, statistics tell you what people want them to say... In the case on CCI, late last year, they started to play with this high premium. I asked to speak with business partner rather than an operator, explained my situation (has the car for 8 years, don't need business use anymore, 5000 miles would do but would need to be increased) but i would not pay twice what i paid for the mega pack (business, max milages).... He had a look and came back £40 cheaper because I had the car for so long... Really, they should had a "experience" factor... For under 40, how long have you owned the car for? If less than 2yrs, have you own another elise in the last 5years sort of thing... I can understand people who had these cars for years are upset with premium over £500, but for people who had the car for less than 2years, i can see where insurers are coming from ( FYI, I used to pay between £950 and £1050) the 2 first years of ownership)....
R.I.B. Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 I paid £915 for my first year with the elise at the age of 25 with elephant.co.uk, then I haven't paid over £500 for the other 4 years (twice with cci, then last year Cci tried it on so I moved to REIS). I'm just about to renew for my 5th year so i'm eager to see what REIS offer me now i'm 30 with 10yrs NCB (if it goes above 9) and 5 years experience with this vehicle. I bet you any money they try to increase it! There's no loyalty in this game and insurance companies will rob you blind if you let them, so I always phone everyone up, lie about other insurance quotes to make sure i'm getting the best deal. They deserve to be treated like they treat us!
a7esk Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 As its my 3rd Elise in 10 years and the young age of 50 are it pays to shop around just need to make sure the car value is insured as all lotus have gone up in value . Eddie
