pablo_paul Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 hi hoping some people can give me some recommendations on wheel referb companies for the elise bored with silver so going to swap the wheels to black. not sure if this a tech question or not so thought I,d ask here feel free to move mods. I've found a couple of companies in Cov and Brum that state the process they use and the provide a drive in drive out service. http://www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk http://www.wheelrefurbish.co.uk can any one recommend these or any other companies? Thanks. Paul
scatty Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 A know quite a lot of folks who have used the wheel specialist in burton, gav being one of those as well.... I've not heard anything bad said about them...
Antoned Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 I used the wheel specialist in notts, and was very happy with them, comes with a year guarantee and most importantly they know how to lift Lotuses!!!
pablo_paul Posted July 24, 2013 Author Posted July 24, 2013 Bit of a trip Nottingham way was hoping for something a little bit closer to home. One of my concerns is them knowing the cars and how to jack them properly. If I had a spare set of rims I'd just do it myself putting it up on axle stands sounds a real pain in the arse. Thanks for the replies.
PaulJ Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 I've used Paul at 1st class alloys in Lichfield. He's also well aware of the do's and dont's with Lotus. I'm pretty sure he's owned a lotus in the past and recently done a stunning job for Martin R.
PeterField Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 I've used the birmingham branch of the wheel specialist earlier this year and was very impressed with their work, good price too. Dropped car off (albeit not the lotus) and picked it up all done later the same day. Great service! Wheels look just as good now several months and a good few miles later.
Steve J Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Mine are going to the wheel specialist in Nottingham on Saturday. Not cheap but I hear they have a good reputation.
pablo_paul Posted July 24, 2013 Author Posted July 24, 2013 I think I will make some calls tomorrow see if any of them have any lotus experience. Other than that I,m just going to have to man up and put the thing up on axle stands I might even get a group discount the mrs drove the scirocco into a curb so that needs doing as well
M@r]{ Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 I just picked my wheels up from the Wheel Clinic in Northampton. They've done a fantastic job and for a very good price: £120!!! That was a cash price for Powder Coating in satin black. My wheels were in ok condition, no kerbing just scuffs so an easy job for them.
Foggy Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Is powder coating the best way to have them done or painted? I will need to get mine done soon and have never had wheels refurbed on a car before.
M@r]{ Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 I read apparently it is harder wearing, less likely to chip that just painting?
Steve J Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Was it a full refurb or just the face that was done? My quote is 3x that
M@r]{ Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Was it a full refurb or just the face that was done? My quote is 3x that The whole wheel. Was your quote from them? Or are you referring to another place? If you do call them it wouldn't surprise me if you get quoted a higher price. As I say I got that price by turning up with the wheels in my car, tyres off and asked for their best price. Did me a deal there and then. IIRC the price list on the wall stated for x2 16" and x2 17" should have been £160. So even at full price that seems very good.
M@r]{ Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Took a few pictures of them today, hopefully gives you an idea of the quality of the refurb:
Steve J Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 They quoted me £300 for just black but can't take bookings till 19th Aug, which is too late for me and only £50 less than I have been quoted to get done next week.
