Wheel Referb Recommendations?

Recommended Posts

hi hoping some people can give me some recommendations on wheel referb companies for the elise bored with silver so going to swap the wheels to black.

not sure if this a tech question or not so thought I,d ask here feel free to move mods.

I've found a couple of companies in Cov and Brum that state the process they use and the provide a drive in drive out service.

http://www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk

http://www.wheelrefurbish.co.uk

can any one recommend these or any other companies?

Thanks. Paul

Bit of a trip Nottingham way was hoping for something a little bit closer to home. One of my concerns is them knowing the cars and how to jack them properly. If I had a spare set of rims I'd just do it myself putting it up on axle stands sounds a real pain in the arse. Thanks for the replies.

I've used Paul at 1st class alloys in Lichfield. He's also well aware of the do's and dont's with Lotus. I'm pretty sure he's owned a lotus in the past and recently done a stunning job for Martin R.

I've used the birmingham branch of the wheel specialist earlier this year and was very impressed with their work, good price too. Dropped car off (albeit not the lotus) and picked it up all done later the same day. Great service! Wheels look just as good now several months and a good few miles later.

Mine are going to the wheel specialist in Nottingham on Saturday.

Not cheap but I hear they have a good reputation.

I think I will make some calls tomorrow see if any of them have any lotus experience. Other than that I,m just going to have to man up and put the thing up on axle stands :) I might even get a group discount the mrs drove the scirocco into a curb so that needs doing as well

I just picked my wheels up from the Wheel Clinic in Northampton. They've done a fantastic job and for a very good price: £120!!! That was a cash price for Powder Coating in satin black. My wheels were in ok condition, no kerbing just scuffs so an easy job for them.

Is powder coating the best way to have them done or painted?

I will need to get mine done soon and have never had wheels refurbed on a car before.

I read apparently it is harder wearing, less likely to chip that just painting?

Was it a full refurb or just the face that was done? My quote is 3x that :(

The whole wheel. Was your quote from them? Or are you referring to another place?

If you do call them it wouldn't surprise me if you get quoted a higher price. As I say I got that price by turning up with the wheels in my car, tyres off and asked for their best price. Did me a deal there and then.

IIRC the price list on the wall stated for x2 16" and x2 17" should have been £160. So even at full price that seems very good.

Took a few pictures of them today, hopefully gives you an idea of the quality of the refurb:

They quoted me £300 for just black but can't take bookings till 19th Aug, which is too late for me and only £50 less than I have been quoted to get done next week.

Mak XLR light weight wheels in Toyota fitment. Perfect fit for an S2 Exige, may fit Elise?  Shod with Advan A048's with legal tread. Easily enough tread for another track day or two. Wheels are in immaculate condition, no kerbing at all.
Would make a great upgrade from the OEM y spokes or to have as a second set of wheels with winter or all season tyres on.
Two of them have lost the lotus badge off the centre caps.  Caps are still present, just needs a couple of those gel coat stickers from eBay.
Ive also got some more semi slick tyres that can be included for the right price.  I have 4 tears and 2 fronts. All have at least 3mm of tread.
Collection from NN14 (30secs off the A14 in Northamptonshire). Can also arrange Collection from Northampton or Leicester.

      Hello all,

I am new to both this forum and Lotus ownership (well i will be on Saturday when i pick her up ) Hopefully it will be a great experience!

The car i have bought has black 111s wheels (carbon black i think he said) which look alright but my personal preference has always been silver wheels, my question is i have seen many people say the 111s wheels should be 'Smoked Chrome' has anybody got a picture of the smoked chrome wheels and a picture of just standard alloy wheel colour as i want to get them sprayed up before i pick the car up next saturday.

Thnaks in advance and soon as i pick her up i'll post some pics!
