Oakman Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 I'm due to renew insurance on my cars, they're on a combined policy with Footman James who I've been with for some years. Like all car insurances even the specialist polices have gone up immensely. Just to ask members who they use - especially if they insure more than one vehicle on their policy. Mine has the classic Elan at agreed value and S1 Elise on agreed value plus Evora at market price. Thanks in advance, Paul Quote
Elisemadray Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 I have found that multi car policies don't really save you anything, I could be wrong? I would try Compare.com it has saved me money Quote
Oakman Posted August 14, 2024 Author Posted August 14, 2024 Thanks Ray, Footman always did club & classic policies and were very good value, especially with agreed values. Previously they were very good with multi vehicle, but the last couple of years they seem to have gone more like the mainstream insurers - they might have been absorbed by a bigger company. Quote
Phil Hutchins Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 I used Adrian Flux last time who gave the best rate for my S1 Elise, having separated-out my daily’s from a previous multi-car policy. Quote
gavcolton Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 I’ve used Adrian Flux and Admiral before, but now use LV (found by confused.com as Ray suggested). Some years I’ve found multi-car policies to be cheaper and others it’s been more expensive. It’s certainly more convenient but it hasn’t been consistently cheaper. Quote
LRS7 Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 I’m with Admiral for my personal cars Paul but the renewals up in October so not looking forward to the new premium. We use NFU for our fleet insurance which I’ve added the M2C and Rangerover at quite reasonable rates, might be worth a call. Quote
Oakman Posted August 14, 2024 Author Posted August 14, 2024 Thank you all, I will do the ringing round. Thanks Mark re NFU, I have two business Kombi Vans which I will check them up about. Regards, Paul Quote
Alpinetracks Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 I’m with Admiral too on a multicar policy. Went up 30% last year, but days of searching I couldn’t get anything cheaper. Expected something similar again with what I’ve heard elsewhere this year, but it’s just landed a few days ago and the renewal has come down! 😮 (Will still ring around of course). Quote
DeanB Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 Paul I am with REIS. They were competitive - the cover is SDP only, limited miles and includes track days. Quote
MG4Lotus Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 Since 2019 I have had both the Evora and the Volvo daily driver, The Evora I have had insured with LV and then Aviva. The Volvo I have had insured with LV, then Hastings and then Aviva. At times they have been multi car policies and other times they been individual policies, depending on which worked out cheaper. I have used the meerkats and also going direct to insurers (some insurers don't appear on comparison sites) to get the best quotes. It's a faff to have to do this and is a thief of my time, I wouldn't be unhappy if they were all nationalised along with energy companies etc. There would only be one price and it would be the best price. The insurance companies sometimes want to get more share of the market so will make the premiums competitive and at other times they will want to reduce their share of the market so will increase their premiums to become un-competitive. So the advice is to shop around with all that faffing about. I had Fully comp with social, domestic and pleasure and commuting on both cars but no longer have commuting as I don't do that any more. In the past I have had business use but not for about 20 years. Good luck. Quote
Mutley00 Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 I use Hertitage/Norton Paul. Sadly (Ray) Classic Car policies dont appear on comparison sites. One thing me and several other people have noticed, is that one year FJ are really competitive and the following year they are extortionate 🤔 and seem to rely alot on customers who couldn't be bothered to ring round. I keep a list of about 5 companies who I ring round every year, so I'm afraid you've got a few phone calls to make Paul and alot of your details to repeat! Quote
Oakman Posted August 15, 2024 Author Posted August 15, 2024 Thanks again everyone its most helpful. Don't we all love the hours on the phone - I tried the computerised stuff for the business vehicles, took even longer 😩 Quote
CDM2018 Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 It’s a day job and equates to hours of your time so if you cost that sometimes you wonder if all you saved was £20 ??? many insurers don’t cope with quotes for higher class sports car & the multiple vehicle insurance can amount to no saving it’s really a case of spending the time and pulling your hair out and then repeat this time next year ! Quote
collieek Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 I insure my cars separately found it cheaper than a multi car policy. The Lotus is with Reis £20 more than last year limited miles and agreed value. Quote
