Bell & Colville

Hi

Just thought I'd post up my recent experience with Bell & Colvill. I brought an Exige 240S from them a few weeks ago and within 36hrs had decided that enough was enough as I had accrued a fairly lengthy list of things I was unhappy about!

I phoned the MD Nick Baker and explained the area's that I found unacceptable. There is probably nothing to be gained from listing out all the problems, but I did seriously question why I had paid extra from a dealer when I could have brought privately.

But was is worthy of comment is the way they handled it. Nick Baker phoned me back a couple of hours after my initial phone call and said he would arrange for the car to be collected and taken back to Bell & Colvill Surrey. Nick explained that he was going to hand the situation over to a guy called Scott Walker ( who I had not met and was not the Salesman I brought the car off ) and he would be in contact.

Well I have say this guy was brilliant, kept me updated by phone and email ( which I personally prefer as I have things in black and white ) detailing out line by line my complaints and what they were doing to rectify them and the timescales involved.

I had the car delivered back to my home this afternoon and went for a quick blat and it's bloody lovely! All points appear to have been sorted and on top of that I have a cheque for two new rear tyres!

In my line of work we to have problems with our service engineers and products but I say it's way we deal with them when we do have problems that matters the most - treat customers how you would expect to be treated if you were unhappy with something you had personally bought is my motto!

Well would I buy from a dealer again....Yes.....would I buy from Bell & Colvill.....Yes I definitely would.

That's good, a happy ending. smile.png

We always go over cars like nobody's business, and knock the price down accordingly. We've saved ourselves thousands over the years.

Mark,

It appears that SW has done himself no harm at all in this situation, already well thought of in Lotus circles, Scott's reputation has gone North by some..

I am very surprised that a Lotus dealer of B&C stature allowed a car to leave their dealership with a load of issues that they had to put right so soon after you took ownership of. Although I'm really pleased they appear to have rectified the issues.

We bought a second hand 111R a few years back from PSSC which took some putting right.

getting down from my soap box.............hope you have loads of fun with your Exige 240S

Thanks for your comments. You are of course right in that you would not expect a Lotus Dealership to let a car leave in the state my car was in, however I had this very statement levelled at me recently by one of my good customers, but sometimes things just slip through the net however good the company is. But like I said earlier, for me personally, it's down to how it's handled after you have complained and what you/they do about it from there on and that's where Scott and Bell & Colvill came into their own really.

I am really looking forward to giving it a good thrashing around Curborough in the New Year ( Hopefully with loads of other MLOC'ers ) and then on to Cadwell Park asap after that!

LOL!! I say Martin you've got me down to tee there! It also might have had something to do with the fact I would have been the biggest pain in the arse they have ever had the pleasure ( or not as the case may be! ) in doing business with! My reputation proceeds me!! bum.gif

I met Scott Walker once when I went to view a 111S when he was in business for himself. His cars were immaculate and he pays a lot of attention to detail. He even checked the tyre pressures before we went on a test drive.

Had a very similar experience when i bought mine from B&C too, they sold it with a dud battery which they later admitted they knew about. They sorted it all out straight away, though, so can't really fault them in the end.

Do wonder if it's intentional, and they just hope that as long as one person doesn't complain then they've made a small saving...
