Tango190 Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Get a Landrover Discovery S1 (of course) 200tdi intercooler and fit it in the boot area (rear) draw cool air from the Elise boot vents - direct to turbo. Charge cooler style. The Landy IC has huge capacity for the 2.5l engine/turbo combo and is cheap - mounting like this would be cool charge for sure. Disco IC is quite small, should get way good air flow too on 3 inch silicon pipes Just a thought
smilesoffun Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Oh yes you have to have a dump Valve Had one on my Smart car till I blew it up cool phil, not too sure on the chav dump valve though! Ah come on Steve you cant say you've never wanted one!
Phil.S Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 Thanks for all the advice folks keep it coming..

dobbo Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Nice idea. So do the boot vents let air into the engine bay or out? or both? Truly, you are mad as well. But in the spirit is helpful (?) advice, the vents in the S1 engine cover let hot air out (the stuff sucked in through the NACA ducts in the undertray. I did see photos once (think it was on a Japan site) with a second set of inlets in the rear clam, below the normal ones. Same shape, etc. I think those were for brake cooling ducts, but I'm sure you could work something out and have some bodywork blending done afterwards. The side scoops I've got fitted increase airflow into the engine bay as well, so 2 new inlets and 4 scoops and you're away * * with the fairies, but I'll keep my eye on the progress !!!
Ladders Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Perhaps it would be a good idea to duct air from the undertray up to the turbo and then out of the boot vents then.
Phil.S Posted January 31, 2008 Author Posted January 31, 2008 Well theres some scope for ducting the undertray and there is also a redundant air scoop on the offside which could be used to channel the air to cool the turbo a bit better. I'll buy a fire extinguisher too!
chris_h Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I had a rover 620ti for a while and it was a great engine, some people tune them upto 250bhp for not a lot of money. Its just a shame about the weight, but it has reasonable power / torque even before the turbo really kicks in.
MilesH Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Incase it's of use, for all T series knowledge this website is brilliant www.rovertech.net. I was a regular member for a while and the knowledge some of these guys have on the T series is brilliant!
Phil.S Posted February 1, 2008 Author Posted February 1, 2008 Right heres the first addition to the toolkit. Another ebay bargain. Nice bloke from bromsgrove with a white cobra replica. Should make things a bit easier. Going to collect the engine on Sunday.. EEK
dobbo Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Aldi have 250kg electric winches in for £35 (I think) this week if you have a suitable beam in the garage. EDIT - this week's special offers, not generally available. I went for the pillar drill for £35 as that'll probably get more use. Did think about the winch for pulling the car up ramps under control when there's just me. Anyone reckon a 25-kg winch would pull an Elise up a pair of ramps ?

fentuz Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 What about a N-serie? I remember a pistonhead article saying the future "big" chinese mgf would be powered by a N-serie...
Phil.S Posted February 3, 2008 Author Posted February 3, 2008 Few jobs done today: Clam off Engine, box and loom collected. Totally back breaking job to get it out the car (big thanks to my friend james for doing most of the work) Tried to fit it all in the garage (big job) - the car is underneath all of that somewhere Cant wait to strip the new T and see what needs doing.
