Exige Gear Linkage Adjustment

My gear selection has slowly got worse and i seem to struggle with all left biased gears on the shifter, 1st, 2nd and reverse. Fishing for 2nd gear on track is not the best especially when everything gets red hot. I decided to lubricate the cables and make some adjustments to try and improve the selection.

Seats out, amazing what you find under there. The floor is filthy and unfortunately no money :-(

I cleaned up the tub with a magic sponge and baby wipes and it came up like new.

Then I took off the rear drinks holder, take out one screw that holds on the cover, then a further 2 screws to take off the holder. Unscrew 2 screws holding on the handbrake sleeve and slide it off, undo the 2 torx screws holding on the centre console and lift upward. Disconnect the hazard switch, central locking switch and traction control button (the lotus position may need to be used to get a good view under the console. Cut the tie wrap that holds on the leather gear stick shroud and lift off the console. The easiest way I found was to pull on the handbrake hard and put into 5th gear.

If you select gears you will understand how the mechanism works and how it can be adjusted in each plane. I loosened off the ball joint nuts and popped them off there pins, made adjustments and reselected gears. This is trial and error until you find the sweet spot. I found the gear stick was hitting the stop on the left hand side in the wrong position and I had to force 1st, 2nd and reverse gears. After biasing selection to the right, engaging those gears was dramatically improved!!! I spent time lubricating / spraying a PTFE oil down the cables and working it in by selecting gears. Assembled the centre tunnel in reverse order as above.

And the outcome?, it's a different gearbox altogether, slick and rifle bolt feel to it!!! It's sooo smooth selecting gears now and I can't wait to test it out on track.

Great job!

It's 'little' things like that which completely transform the feel of a car. Got to be worth another second a lap I reckon thumbs_up.gif

If I'd have known there was a possibility of Haribo under the seats I would have had them on months ago lol.

Tub looks awesome now it has been cleaned and the difference in the gear change is really noticeable. I used to really struggle with 1-2 and 3-2, sometimes just having to find an alternative gear or do a bit of coasting until I could find a gear - bad enough on the road but on track its really not the best. Now the gears are as smooth as a baby's bottom :)

You inspired me to have a clean up of my tub last night G. S1 has those annoying serrated treads though, but I was surprised how effective a baby wipe could be! Might just be one of those things to keep on top of regularly.
