Thanks, or perhaps not! This is encouraging me to do it. wacko.png

Craig at LB did say if I could get it to a rolling chassis sorted he could do the body. Having looked at the bits of the kit it really does seem to be a bolt together job, much less of a 'fettle and fit' type approach you get with some kit cars. Electrics do confuse me a bit though.

The engine doesn't phase me at all. Very used to extensive engine mods and mapping.

OK I pay others to do it most of the time but I know what is achievable. I already know who I would approach for the engine build  smile.png. Not that familiar with the ECU side of things on the Alfa though. Craig seems to have experienced quite a few badly mapped cars and he's a big fan of the OEM ECU - especially for cold starts. Sure a decent mapper could sort it out though. The Emerald ECU on my 340R works well.

My approach to things (after modding my S2 loads) is that you can get pretty much anything sorted if your prepared to do you ground work, make a lot of calls and persevere. Oh and spend lots of cash.......

I'm off to see an LB build a few miles away form me next weekend hopefully. To give me an idea of what's involved and ask lots of stupid questions.

FFS, I can see this costing me lots of money sad.png

They don't come up for sale very often at all. Interesting to see the owner has ordered another STR. Wonder what the difference in spec will be?

he is building one now with the Toyota engine from the Evora. Expensive engine to buy new though.

There is a brand new engine (no box) on ebay for £3k. Not sure if there are any ancillaries like loom, alternator etc. don;t think there are. No exhaust manifolds either.

Buy this Leigh! You could sell your Honda S2 to fund half of it...

Half! Cheeky sod! crybaby.gif it's worth more than that!

For £40k I could build exactly what I wanted. Not that it would be far from that spec, but It would be the later chassis and I wouldn't pick that paint job personally.

Lol! I genuinely have no idea what any S2 is worth, regardless of condition or donk! They've NEVER been on my radar...

It sounds like you're thinking about it more and more. Welcome, Dr H, to the slippery slope ;-)

The S2 is on an agreed insuarance valuation of £30k. However if you add up all the receipts i have from me and the previous owner you get to a figures which is multiples higher!

When I was over with Dan at HPE yesterday I was asking Ian at clockwise about building an Alfa V6 with throttle bodies.......he was pointing out how the V6 Toyota engine is in a different league.

Dan's place is becomming a right 'motorsport' hotspot. New guy just moved on site who balances engines. So they now have a couple of engine builders, a RR, an engine balancer, a CNC machine shop and a Lotus specialist / Honda converter all in one place.

Hi Kurt

Im the friend of Dave in the above thread.  I placed an order for my LB back in February and hoping to get it around Dec/Jan. Going to start rebuilding my Alfa 3.0 V6 engine first. it will have Jenvey throttle bodies, piper cams and a bit more compression , should be good for around 290BHP and sound just magic! The car will be red with the gold coffin spoke alloys with the wide group 4 round arches.

I also have a GT40 replica and a Noble M12. If you going to build a GT40 i strongly recommend the Southern GT40. It is around £10K more to build than a Tornado (which i have), but the engineering is superb; the suspension geometry is properly sorted to really make it handle right. The Tornado isnt a bad car , but the extra touches to the SGT make it the choice at the moment.

Be very aware that you could probabley build 2  lister bells in the time it will take you to do a GT40. The bodywork is very hard!

I'll pass that info on to my father in law. I've heard that the Southern GT is THE car to have. We are both considering buying into a GT40 rep as he needs a retirement project. I keep going around in circles as to whether I'd sell the Exige (and then add some cash) to fund half a GT40. It'd need to be very very good to justify that level of sacrifice. Can you post images of your car please?
