Raffe Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I have a Type 79 Elise 111s. The black and gold JPS heritage edition. My dads from new and now mine. 50,000 miles on it, standard except hurricane air intake and sport throttle body. The steering wheel, gold alcantara is badly worn. So I am looking at replacing it. Leather seems a good harder wearing option or do I keep it standard and look for alcantara? I will of course match the colour! Advice needed!
Martin 111S Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I'd go with leather, you could just have a black one and wouldnt look out of place. Or maybe leather wheel with centre alcantara - black or gold, dependant how you feel. Leather wheels feel so much better imho.
Raffe Posted June 12, 2013 Author Posted June 12, 2013 Thanks Martin. Cheers for the reply! If I go for leather, I will match the current wheel, being black and gold.

Steve J Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I'd keep as original, however if you want leather then a black leather wheel with gold alcantara centre would still look the part without getting grubby.

Agree with Martin - the blue alcantara on STMBOs steering wheel was worn so I got a black leather wheel with a blue alcantara centre.
Jumpjet Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Original is certainly different and probably worth preserving for its own sake. Elise Parts did the steering wheel on my car: However, it was done before I got it. Give them a ring - they might still do it or at least know a man who can.
