ollie Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Hi. Just wondering what upgrades people tend to go for like. Coilovers. Bushes. Exhaust etc. Thanks
chris_h Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Big chunk of it covered in the modifications section of my garage page. http://www.midlandslotus.co.uk/forum/garage/vehicle/113-s2-elise-exige/page__tab__mods
jonnyfox Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Silver lettering on the engine cover, lol were you bored Chris :-) you'll be painting your 888's next lol Depends what you're after Ollie, but please don't say more power ;-)
chris_h Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 lol, yeah i did it when i first got the car. I quite like the race look of logo'd tyres, but haven't done it yet due to the stick i know i'll get !!
ollie Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 The power is ok at the min wouldn't mind more though if I had very deep pockets or a money tree . I'm after ideas for handling upgrades are they worth it. Is there a nice exhaust system to go for or are you as well getting one custom built. I don't want to alter the exterior with carbon or splitters etc. so really handling upgrades Yayyy or Nayyyy
jonnyfox Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Lol @ Chris, I did the gear knob in red lettering lol and sooo want to do the tyres :-) Sorry Ollie, what car do you have again S or NA?
jonnyfox Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 A full exhaust system like a 2ublar (the best) made my car more responsive, the after market air box more dramatic which I presume would do similar for your 220 S. The bous is weight loss and that'll be about 10kg but that only really matters on track as does changing the manifold imo. Anyway you can't go wrong with new dampers but again it's a track thing and SeriouslyLotus.com offer a try before you buy with various Nitrons. Dave's a good bloke, it's a good site and he's a man of his word. I'm all track driving and kind of focus my answers there but if its road drama than exhaust only and enjoy. Me, I went exhaust, manifold, airbox, dampers, ARB, aggressive Geo and 4 pot brakes in that order, handling. Almost all of which you can resell easy enough when the time comes. I would also go to 260bhp if I had your car but no more, unless you're a complete cock! And there are so many it's untrue lol .....I'm just kidding Super Cocksters ;-)
DeanB Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Brake pads are usually a good upgrade. I hear good things about the Carbon Lorraine CL5+. Much better stopping power, and good feel.
ollie Posted January 12, 2013 Author Posted January 12, 2013 Thanks for the replys. I was looking at the 2bular ones also at getting one custom made. What does the 2bular system sound like. What air box are you using as well. Suspension wise is the Nitron good or are you better of with Bilstein or Ohlins or Gaz to many to choose from . I've got the 4pots so there covered. What are rough prices for a 260bhp upgrade I'd happily take more power haven't enough Wonga though
chris_h Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Are you intending on tracking the car at all/ocassional/regulary, or is it going to be a road car. I think that changes what upgrades you do. For standard road use the lotus suspension is very good, I'd only upgrade if tracking. Then it depends on budget and the % track/road compromise you want to make with spring rates etc. I've got a 2bular, they are straight through designs so they sound good. They are as loud as you choose as he does different diameter and length. I've got the biggest gt3 style as i want to be able to pass sound tests at tracks but it still sounds really good (esp. on second cam) and it doesn't drone at all. As said its also much lighter than standard - I sometimes wonder if lotus designed the rear exhaust as part of the rear crash structure it is so heavy !! The best upgrades i have done to mine which would be relevent to you are: A good geo setting buy a local specialist (can make a huge difference) 4 point harness (it means you use the steering wheel for steering, not holding onto in quick corners!!) uprated dampers (i've got one way nitrons) (do uprated arb at the same time) As yours is SC i'd use the TRD airfilter kit, pretty cheap and very good. http://www.seriously...and-filter.html and sooo want to do the tyres :-) Perhaps if we both do the tyres at the same time we can share the piss taking or even make it the thing to do!!
scatty Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Please don't tippex your tyres boys. I will berate you all day at the chatsworth meet 2013!!! My mate did it on his Evo and never lived it down... It looked like s tragic scene from Rory the racing car!!!!
DeanB Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 If you are tipp-exing your tyres you should forget about nitrons etc and get a jack-up kit, some Mickey Thompsons on the back and a fog light turned the wrong way round to shine a bit of light on your diff. Nice.
jonnyfox Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 I really like it lol sorry to pop off topic Ollie I think it looks mega on Esprit's S1 with TMR's. Dean, have you heard or seen the posts relating to CL's disintegrateing in the callipers? Not a criticism to you mate but it puts me right off. I'm all for Ohlins personally Ollie, I've never tried Nitrons but those are the two main S2 culprits and the new Nitrons are having particularly good reviews, especially 46mm's. lol but I'd still buy Ohlins ;-). Powerwise speak to Christpher Neil's Lotus, all good stuff, Lotus Approved and priced very well indeed. There are other after market ways to increase power but it really depends on residuals should you decide to sell or if you plan to keep.
