MilesH Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Well after a few delusional weeks of thinking I needed to get rid of kermit I have come to my senses!! It was 5 years ago this July that I bought a lightly modded S1 Elise, and 2 weeks ago I questionned whether I should get rid - the issues over the last couple of years with the bodywork, a number of broken driveshafts, the pull towards getting something more reliable (like an S2 Exige) and the questions over whether I should finally give in and go racing made me question keeping the car. But I have come to my senses, Kermit is going nowhere, and the love affair continues So in honour of the last 5 years I thought I'd put together a few pictures that show the transformation that R89 OTT has undergone: Bought in July 2006 as a lightly modded S1 Elise, with s2 suspension and a 118bhp K-Series. If it wasn't for getting a passenger ride with Dan in his car at Bedford I would never have bought one! First things first, get it on track.........the good old days of airfield trackdays with Dan - check out the body roll of those worn S2 Bilsteins Next came a hard top, nitrons and a re-trim of the interior from cream to black. Still on the original mmc's Curborough 2007 - sprinting with Martin, Tim, Chris H, Dan, Sarah and Nick Honda time!!!! I still blame Dan and Austen for this! Also ali-belled discs, uprated pads, upgraded toe-links, 2bular exhaust etc etc etc Then a full respray in standard ruby red, and a few further additions I'm sure most will remember the 'MLOC' from the sky photo shoot - big thanks to JonS for this picture Then came time for a different look. I'd always wanted an exige, but after putting the honda in I decided it would be best just to make a fake one Le Mans 2010 - my first big road trip. Memories of Martin teaching me how to drive , Bill ordering for us all, whilst Laura regretted ordering raw meat!! And of course sharing a bed with Dan for 2 nights........... At supercar sunday 2010 - I was sunburnt for days after this!!! Then came the need for a respray - so I decided on a slightly less subtle colour........ Silverstone Stowe Feb 2011 Being chased by a yellow bug lap after lap!! Mallory Park (2 weeks ago ) And this is how R89 OTT currently looks. Here's to the next 5 years and for plenty more MLOC memories
Martin R Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Excellent Miles Once you have taken in all i taught you at Le Mans you will be a decent driver I remember you terrorising a few " quicker " cars at Bedford when it had a mere 120 k series BHP. How time flies.
Greg.g Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 I am glad you have taken it off the market. I was trying to figure out how to sell off Ali's body parts to raise the cash. Rather unsportingly she wanted to keep all her organs intact. Just ordered a chainsaw though
Dr H Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Nicely timed post! I'd just noticed it on Pistonheads and was going to ask what was going on
andywolf Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Great write up of the past few years and love the current colour!
Laura Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 So glad you have decided to keep kermit and loved the write up and photos, good memories there and lessons learned by me - (1) when in France stick to le big mac and (2) bring factor 50 with me to Supercar Sunday lol. P.S. Sure my threat to take Sal shopping if you sold had nothing to do with it?
JonS Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Phew!! Nice memories from the photos Miles. That was my first 'proper' car photo. First of ... a lot! Glad sense has prevailed, you'd only embarrass Austen!
G Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Mate, I think I prefer ruby red Only joking! The time it took you to post this you could have detailed 2 more cars :-p It is an ongoing joke here about the raw mince, I often ask Laura if she would like her dinner cooked or raw? Fond memories at lemans too and especially trying to keep ahead of kermit at Stowe. SPA will be the big memory this year, you are coming to that one! Thought I would add this one too http://www.midlandslotus.co.uk/forum/gallery/image/9235-p1030181jpg/
PeterField Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Very pleased to read you've come to your senses mate! Nice write up too btw.
fentuz Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 GOOD!!! Miles, next time don't take as much sugar; we keep telling you it gets you crazy... selling R89OTT... what a nonsense! or should I say "Poppycock"
Steve G Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Great choice. Would be mental to sell it now after having had so much done recently. Often when reading about your car I wonder if Wuddie ever drops in here and sees how his car turned out...! Here's to the next 5 years!
steve-n Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Kermit..... you should call it Doctor Who! Certainly transformed over time.....
Martin R Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Kermit..... you should call it Doctor Who! Certainly transformed over time..... Triggers broom may be better.
