Gazlar53 Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Hi guys, hope you don't mind this as a first post. I'm currently looking at purchasing an S1 hopefully sometime soon but I'm currently in the research stage and have a question about insurance. I'm currently running a 2002 bmw m3 as a daily and have a mk3 cortina for the weekend. I'm looking to sell the cortina and get a lotus elise circa 2000. At the moment my daily insurance with Ncb is on the m3 and the cortina is on a very cheap classic policy. The elise will only do circa 3000 miles max per year but because it's not that old it doesn't fall into classic insurance territory. I've had a multicar quote off my current insurance and they wanted £700 to insure the elise (on top of my premium for the m3)What would be the best way to insure to insure this and who would be the best company to use? I've just looked at classicline but they can't quote online for some reason. Many thanks Gareth
The Cakes Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Classicline and they do multi car policies. Get a limited mileage policy and you're away! It will be a lot less than £700 unless you're 17!
DeanB Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 I'm with Manning and they are very good - they advertise on here so you should be able to find them in the advertisers section.
Ajayo Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 My first year with the s1 was over £700 with a couple of years NCD, with a regular insurer. Then I moved to a Competition Car Insurance, and it has been in the £300 bracket ever since. Currently with REIS, based on 4000 miles per year and 4 free track days covered. Had to move from CCI to REIS, as I understand CCI stopped insuring anybody under 40 years old on the Elise. Not sure if that is still the case. I would guess you would be better with a dedicated sports car policy. they also include most mods, as long as you declare them, without any increase in premium. (just changes premium if you have any increases in power).
@ndy Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 I'm with CCI at the moment and very happy with the service with 6 free track days included, I believe the 40 age limit is still active, I have also been insured with REIS in the past who also were very good
Alex B Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Just had my manning renewal come through at £750 which as 26 isn't too bad but will be ringing around before I commit
kayj_prod Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 I went back to CCI after their change to hiking up premiums for under 40s... Having said that, I'm now with Adrian Flux. I can't see your car being a 2000 should stop it going on a 'classic car' policy... Mine is a 99 and I was with Hagerty some years ago on a classic policy. Whatever the policy is called, go to a specialist as you'll get a far better deal than a regular broker will find for you IMO.
Gazlar53 Posted October 25, 2015 Author Posted October 25, 2015 That's great, Thanks a lot guys. I'll make some calls and hopefully update with some good news soon. Cheers, Gareth
fast5freddy Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Try Matt at Henderson Taylor - (08009172007) Just renewed, same price as last year - Agreed value, unlimited UK track days/2 Euro track days, 3000 miles per annum for under £300. I am an old g*t mind you! Dave
chumaxa Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Do you guys know if it helps to do some course like carlimits or other stuff, very annoying to pay so much when you are young with no claim ever ...
lukevx Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 A major consideration for the more specialist insurers is how much experience you have in the car or one similar. The new deal im on with the Exige through Classic Line (equity red star policy) didn't even take no claims bonus into account.
DeanB Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Do you guys know if it helps to do some course like carlimits or other stuff, very annoying to pay so much when you are young with no claim ever ... I think it does make a difference with some. When getting quotes I'm usually asked if I have any additional driving qualifications - I presume they have in mind advanced driving but I always tell them I have passed the race license course.
kayj_prod Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Don't forget that you've driven/owned performance cars before!
Mutley00 Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Pleased to report that Footman James have returned to the party after years of being uncompetitive for me, but I 'suffer' from fast5freddy / Daves ailment. I would bet that if 10 different aged people rang 10 different companies they'd each find a different one was best for them. Whilst our cars are not yet Classics they are Cherished so you end up having to ring round the the same Classic Car Companies rather than being able to use the Comparison sites which dont cater for Classic/Cherished cars..
