Alex B
Appears the car has thrown a big end bearing on pot1 (belt side). There's masses of play in it and lots of chunks of metal in the sump and oil pick up. Doesn't seem to be any other signs of damaged caused by lack of oil. So I'm now on the hunt for a replacement engine, once found and installed, I will be stripping the current one down a rebuilding it.
AlanS1
Feel your pain Alex. You have not had much luck recently with the S1. Did you contact Maidstone sports cars?

Did you contact Maidstone sports cars? jody's dad seems to think that it could have been on its way out for a long time... due to the way the bearing has broken up. not yet gonna ring them first thing monday morning. With any luck they will have something suitable.

Sounds like a sensible plan Alex, good to hear your current engine can be rebuilt without too much pain, at least it didn't throw a rod through the block. Stick a standard engine in for now and then you can rebuild yours as time and funds allow

Alex B
Waiting for Maidstone Sports Cars to get back to me with regards to what engines they have available.
jimbo07g41
Well I think Russ wins the prize for guessing that one correctly. It wouldn't take too long to fix in situ but to be fair you would be wondering what state the other bearings would be in. I think Jodie's dad could be on to something as it is strange that pot 1 bearings has failed so quickly. I guess you will be learning about plasi guard or whatever its called, to make sure you get the correct bearings. I think I would take your approach and pop a replacement in, while rebuilding your current engine.
Martin R
You could ask Dan the man to rebuild the current one whilst you sort all the odds and ends out?
Alex B
You could ask Dan the man to rebuild the current one whilst you sort all the odds and ends out? My plan with rebuilding the current one is to go BIG with the spec so it might end up taking a while.

Martin R
Plastigauge, is no use on a K series. This is due to bugger all being round till the head is bolted on and torqued down
