Alex B
My new S1 has 1 way adjustable nitron Hoffmann shocks with 550 front and 750 rear springs. With most of my driving being road based 9000 miles a year with maybe 6 trackdays. I'm thinking that these springs are far too stiff. May I able to replace the springs with a set with rates of say 375 f 475 r without upsetting the valving? Any help is appreciated Thanks Alex
DeanB
I would give Nitron a call Alex. I am sure they will tell you.
Steve J
They are valved to the spring rates. Chat to Chris H as he had Hoffmans nitrons with similar spring ratings and they seemed fine for the road.
Alex B
I would give Nitron a call Alex. I am sure they will tell you. Something I've been meaning to do but thought I'd ask here first. They are valved to the spring rates. Chat to Chris H as he had Hoffmans nitrons with similar spring ratings and they seemed fine for the road. Reading through Hoffmanns website the main difference between Hoffmann and standard nitrons is the rebound/bump ratio 1/1 on Hoffman and 2/1 nitron. My concern with using springs with such high rates is I won't get as much of a "warning" before things go pear shaped. Also the ride is very hard. Steve J
Doesn't it have helper springs?

Martin R
Ring Randy at Hoffmans and explain what you require. He will put you right.
Alex B
Ring Randy at Hoffmans and explain what you require. He will put you right. Job for first thing Monday as he's racing at snetterton today. Hoping it's just a case of a new set of springs.
russelld
Alex see how you get on with them as they are when you get the car. You will be able to change damper rates for road / track so may find they are not too harsh for the road with the dampers softened off. I had 450 / 600 which were surprisingly compliant on the road. Do you not think they'll be quiet "snappy" with the current rated springs? I be using the car as my only car, so a lot of wet driving.
russelld
It will be awesome on a dry track & try to kill you on wet roundabouts. Perhaps softer springs are the way to go
chris_h
Never had problems on road with mine. Yes a little hard but never felt to intrusive to me. They were awesome on track
DeanB
A word about springs. As with everything some are better quality than others. This means some don't quite fit their description, eg 500 lb springs are actually 530 and 480 across an axle. Michael at Tollbar racing always puts springs on to his machine to measure the rate before putting them on to his cars and has found quite often fairly large variations with cheaper springs. He has found over the years that Eibach are almost always spot on. So he only uses Eibach now. You get what you pay for I suppose.

Cheers for that dean, yet to price up eibach springs but the nitron own ones are 66pound a corner, however I will hopefully only have to buy two new fronts as I have a spare set of nitron springs that should be suitable for the rear. Had a chat with randy from Hoffmann today have to say he was very helpful.
