lummo Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Lol at lummo - allegro estate in brown I learnt a lot from that car: how to change a clutch; how to change a fuel pump; how to bodge rust holes; how to change a fuel tank (it split one night & dumped 10 gallons of petrol into the gutter); how to fix hyrolastic suspension; how to fix electrical faults... Disappointingly though, it didn't have the octagonal steering wheel.
mambosasa Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 My best car.... Peoget 505 GL in light green. This thing was full of rust and all sorts of bird gwano, I had it for three years and never washed it once! It just went and went and never let me know. I miss it man!
GCCK Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Worst car has to be my first company car. As the new boy I got a leggy 1.3L Talbot Sunbeam. It used to shake bodily above 75mph - took it to the garage to complain and they said "you're not supposed to be going over 70". At least being RWD, it was fun getting the back out... My first sportscar was an exercise in naffness. Bought a 1973 Jenson Healy in 1984 for £1000 because I was planning to buy a house and didn't want to spend £3000 on the Elan Sprint DH that I really wanted. Poured money into that JH and sold it in '88 for £800 - by which time (post big bang) good Elan Sprints were fetching nearly £10K. Oh well! Best cars (obviously) were my 2 Elises - and my trusty Mondeo. An ordinary 2.0 Ghia hatch, I've done over 100,000 miles in it and it's not missed a beat (absolutely bound to let me down on the way home tonight then). I rate it higher than the Mondeo ST TDCi I had before - might have had more toys but over-tyred and nobbly ride prove that sometimes more isn't necessarily better. Enjoyed a V6 Mondeo in the '90's - lovely sound from the engine, especially for someone used to 4-cyl rumbles. My best car is still to come - hopefully an Evora in 2011/2. Just need bonus to flesh out a bit.
Martin R Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Graeme, glad to see you still have the bug. Wait for the S/C convertible
kayj_prod Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Hmm, worst car has to be my F plate Austin Maestro. At the time it was just right as it had a boot you could stick loads of gear in- pretty important for a young musician trying to earn some pennies. Looking back though, it had no go, no ride quality and no character. It was in good condition though and I've had way worse condition cars but they had that special 'something'! Best car has to be my Racing Puma. Never failed to put a smile on my face and I still miss it- until I drive the Elise!
fentuz Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Then, just before winter, I decided i wanted a silly car so bought this. It has more toys than Hamleys, massaging seats, cooled seats, fridge, electric everything (rear seats, blinds sunroof) radio control from front and rear, self closing doors, air suspension, sports mode, keyless entry and start ... you name it, it's got it..... it also however only does 25 to the gallon Hence in a few months it'll be sold and I'll be going back to the chick magnet Dan, you know you want that one now http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1541101.htm
JohnnyM Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 worst - punto 1.2 (my first ever car, so cant grumble really) vectra 2.0LS company car best - ford racing puma, elise sport160, Evo 9 MR 360 Havent driven my SC enough to know if it makes the list.... got a couple of hours driving in today with the roof off which was great
Dr H Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Worst was my first ever car - 1983 Ford Fiesta 950 Popular Plus! However it was transport and never ever let me down. Eventually someone rear-ended it at some traffic lights. Best is a bit more difficult because I've always bought cars I've wanted to buy. I really really liked my Mk2 Golf GTi - first intro to 'fast' cars. Very well built and great handling. My Audi S2 Avant was a superb car. The best built car I've ever had, 280hp and 4WD. The 340R is just ace. Impractical, noisy, smelly, wierd looking but still ace. And the S2 has to be right up there. It's running 360-370hp so is fezza/Porsche/Lambo fast (in fact faster than most) and handles like nothing else
