You asked about the fanbase, two years ago it was a sea of orange and Max fans, now they have all gone. The fan favourites are the British drivers, I’d say Lewis, Lando second. Oli was a big in disgrace after his speeding on red, he drove well though. I think they are all a bit better than me. Someone above remarked about how good Silverstone is, it genuinely is good. Music, food, beer (of sorts, it’s Heineken) and entertainment for 3 days. We camped and it has stages fur entertainment, food etc and even clean toilets.

Russell is a fast driver and when his car is fast he qualifies well. During the race he struggles to pass people. I've noticed that through his time at Mercedes including yesterday.
-
I enjoyed the race. I'm glad Lando won but I'll be amazed if Oscar doesn't win the title. He seems to have far superior mental strength and is nip and tuck as fast as Lando. I hope I'm wrong. I would love Lando to win. I thought Lewis had a pretty good weekend - a lot better than his highly regarded team mate certainly. Max was sensationally good coaxing the speed he did out of the Red Bull with almost no wing. Only he could have done that. The British crowd jeer him because, I think, they remember all the times he has behaved in a very unsporting manner towards British drivers, including running them off the road and deliberately crashing in to them. I think it's fair comment personally. If he didn't do those things a lot of British fans would love him, because he is such a good driver.

It was a really intriguing but weird race at the start. Could have gone any way given the weather and the safety cars. Totally agree with the Piastri penalty, I think he was a bit unlucky as the lights on the safety car had only just gone out but it was still excessive. What was the fan base like? I saw the Lando grandstands but I was expecting more red Ferrari fans to get behind Hamilton... Not sure if TV just made it look like there weren't that many...?
-
Just back from Silverstone, it’s my favourite f1 track though I’ve not been to many others. Very good result, Piastri deserved the penalty, visibility was horrid, he could have caused a mighty crash, pleased Hulk got a 3rd, Lewis was never really threatening him. It’s a bit sad that half the fans cheer when Max has a problem, he can be a @@@@@ but he’s a fantastic talent (know to brake check on a safety car release as well) just look what he gets from the car compared with his #2.

Yep, always run the cars 5-10 miles after a wash to dry brakes off before putting back in the garage. Deglaze of pads plus cleaning the discs has got rid of the squeal for now, so will monitor and decide in the spring if I’m going to try a new set of discs and pads
-
Every time I wash the Elise (and Evora) I do a quick run round the block with liberal applications of left foot braking to dry the discs and pads out, before they go back in the garage. Never had any trouble with long pedal or squealing. Def. worth doing for the health of the discs, plus it releases all the trapped water in the bodywork's little crevices (which can then be wiped off so no water marks 🙂). However, I did have a set of Tar.Ox discs on the front of the Evora for a while and they squealed like buggery no matter what pads I tried (was slightly embarrassing in slow moving traffic!!). So I went back to EliseParts cheapest front discs and hey presto, same pads, no squeal. I still have the Tar.Ox discs on the shelf, so might just try a thorough de-grease and try 'em again.

Yeah. Hamilton could be in for a great weekend. They're looking pretty quick and he's got a ridiculous record here
-
Not me. Ferraris look quick though.

Anyone at Silverstone this weekend?
-
Been trying to do that to deal with the squeal, as sharper braking doesn’t cause anywhere near as much squeal. It’s easy on fast country roads but more tricky in built up areas. Squeal seems to have been sorted for now by the pad deglaze, but will see how long it stays that way and will make a conscious effort to be sharper for less duration wherever possible.
-
Maybe adapting your braking style may be beneficial less duration with sharper force would suit the pad style and car type
-
You may be right, but the same happened with the OEM lotus pads. So it was recommended to get more aggressive pads. I’ve used ‘track’ pads in plenty of cars before for fast road use and not had issues, but the Elise is lightweight

The transfer layer is simply just getting worn off buy street driving at lower than there optimal operating range. whilst as reviews say they bite from cold that will be via abrasive friction , driving on the road will not get them into the adhesive friction temp range much if at all as it’s continuous had stops like on track that keeps the core temp up. the reality is your using the wrong pad for your usage and would be better off with a Street bias pad as mentioned above. we run CL5+ with no issues been through two sets now on our third science 2019 with plenty mixed driving and track been faultless (8-10 TDs and 3000+road miles a year) you have to take care of them when washing car and if driving in rain a few hard stops to get temp in them before putting away so there dry is all that’s needed, no bedding in needed as there sintered so work out of the box every time, also light on discs from our experience

I was thinking of the reactive wheel cleaners really. I have similar after washing but it’s limited the first couple of brake applications.

I have wondered whether it could be something with my snow foam or car shampoo combination, going to try and make sure I rinse the wheels/brakes off quite quickly when cleaning going forwards and not let products dwell on the discs at least. I have had many occurrences of washing the car then first few brake applications do very little until, presumably, the discs/pad surfaces dry out or scrub off whatever is left on the surface.
-
Potentially the wheel cleaner could be factor. As that could be striping the transferred layer from the disc just like it’s lifting the dust from the wheel. It’s just a thought.

Tyre comparison - short note on v105 vs ad08rs
Trebor_UK replied to MrWill's topic in Technical Talk
My feedback from the AD08RS on my car during the recent LitP weekend drives - Saturday Pootle, Saturday practice Ashbourne runs and Sunday morning Ashbourne run. The lateral grip is a marked improvement over the V105s, especially when pushing on. Car feels more planted and haven't felt anywhere near the limit of grip (which I did feel sometimes with the V105s). Still playing with pressures. Started at 28 psi Front, 32 Rear as that's what they were set at by the tyre fitters; based on feel during first few hundred miles I dropped these to 27 front, 30 rear for LitP which I'm happy with, feels slightly more supple and less crashy over poor surfaces. May try 26/29 (which is what Lotus recommend) next, but when I ran these pressures on the V105s I did get quite frequent TMPS warnings when setting off and tyres were cold. -

I opened my boot today and it didn't seem right then realised it was the drivers side hinge had become disconnected from the body part. Has anyone else ever had this issue or know how to solve it?
-
No idea then, sorry. You could just try some cheap discs, you don’t need bells or grooved for road use, though they look pretty.
-
Thanks Rob, very generous indeed 👌👍 Dean

Yes did bedding in (on a private road 😉) They have been great for 12 months plus. Not specifically that they were going off when hot. Just gone off generally and the pedal feels wooden, and bad squealing. The cleaning/deglazing I’ve done has improved things greatly and the pedal feel is much improved and no squeal. This has happened with stock pads and the rs42 now so wondering what could be contributing factors.
-
I doubt it’s your discs. Did you bed the brakes in to get a good transfer layer on the pads? They are race pads and need some care. The process is easy but you can’t reach the suggested speeds (legally) and as an Elise is so light I add some cycles, often accompanied by smoke. Doing the cycles with judgement and applying brake and accel at the same time is safer/easier. https://www.pagidracing.com/information/bedding-in-service I’ve never found them worse when hot. Used them for years on track. They are now owned by Europarts and some say the quality has changed but I have not experienced any issues. Additional thought…. Bedding brakes in “out gasses” the pad (and forms the transfer layer), releases gas from the pad. If you don’t do that in a controlled way the gas pushes the pad off the disc when it gets hot, only happens a few times but it is scary. When I first got my current gt86 it had pads which stated “not for track use”, I tried a few wet laps of Donington and they were right, second hard brake and there was nothing there until the pad cooled.
