Mine passed it's test today!

Second time of asking mind; the front tyres were scrubbed off on the inside edge apparently cos the tracking is miles out. Luckily I had some spares.

Anyone know where I can get it tracked in the Mansfield/Newark area?

.... and that coming from a man who drives a bright green car - i must be in trouble ;-)

Another downside I've found today. It does attract the flies, I'm assuming they think its a hedge or a giant turd. Not quite sure which.

Good work on the mot dean..

Bugger - they couldn't get it through the emissions test :-(

I've been advised to give it a good thrashing and take it back in. Doesn't sound like such a hardship ;-)

Gav took one look and said "yep - i'm not surprised". Apparently a race cat and 4 into 1 exhaust is not particularly conducive to successfully passing MOTs ;-)

A little bit of naivity / lack of knowledge of my car on my part here i think. Oh well, you live and learn.

Anyone with any tips (and failing that a spare standard cat) to get it through would be gratefully received.

Cheers

Chris I have a cat you can borrow to get it through the MOT. I can help you fit it if it helps.

Russ.

Thanks russ, i may well need to take you up on that offer. I'm going to give it another go tomorrow or tuesday after a little "warming up" and if we are still struggling i'll give you a shout.

Thanks

So I went and gave it the ragging of all raggings this lunchtime (i honestly felt like a bit of a chav the revs i was using on the way to the garage) and then got it retested for emissions - still no where near to passing - registering 0.48-0.52 against the pass score of 0.2

If the offer is still there I may want to borrow that cat Russ.

If i was to get it refitted with a standard cat as a permanent option what kind of impact would i be looking at 2-3 bhp or 10bhp? And if i came to sell it would it look a bit odd having a Janspeed exhaust (whatever the end bit is called - sorry my technical shortcomings coming out again!), a 4-2-1 manifold and then not a track cat? I could always keep the cat currently fitted and let it go with the car if i do sell it i suppose.

Cheers as always for help guys

chris, cant you get a sports cat fitted????? you should pass emissions with that???mine certainly did....

im guessing this race cat is basically a full decat by the sounds of it....or find an mot friendly garage!!!!!!!

None of the specialists I can think of do MOT's, they take them to somewhere else.

I've taken mine to the same local garage each year and always wait around in the garage with them as they do it. Always a good opportunity for a good peek under the car. They're always helpful getting the car to pass the emissions test as my car is on the edge (sports cat).

Might be worth asking mike ( mgw racing) where he takes his cars.

Thanks for mentioning us Chris.

Looking at the other posts here, it's obviously worth mentioning that I don't take my cars anywhere as we are also an MOT testing station. I think it's also worth mentioning that we get many cars fail on emmisions but we have ways of getting them through (legally before you ask) as we know the cars really well.

Thanks,

Mike

I take mine up to Phoenix Motorsport and have them do something nice to it at the same time; they don't do the MOT themselves but they take care of all that and are bloody awesome.

Anyone know of a Lotus friendly MOT place near Stourbridge (DY9) at all please?

Not due till August so no rush as yet....

Passed :-)

Big big thanks to russ - straight through the test when i got his cat fitted.

Also can't speak highly enough of david drew garage in west bridgford - incredibly helpful and spent hours trying stuff to get it through before we resorted to the cat change.
