Kingk Engine Graph

here is the graph for my BTCC engine when it was remapped for 95 Ron fuel

16082011_2.jpg

270 brake when I don't see anyone getting more than 240bhp out of a Honda K20 with bigger valves, a bigger TB and more cam.

So who on seloc has managed to produce anything this by way of engineering or power/torque.

I hope that is a reasonable measure of the work that I have done with this engine, that I do not honestly see anyone else having done and therefore a resonable qualification to help people with so called "HGF"

no engine that I have ever built, despite many hours of motorsport at professional level or road use has ever lost a gasket.

That is impressive for a K and no mistake. However most of us just want one to get us about and do a few trackdays a year. The K was a brilliant idea IMO. Its a crying shame it got such a bad reputation for whatever reason ( mostly HGF ) It shows what can be done.

However how close it is to a standard K is another debate i suppose :)

this engine is no closer to a OEM K series than a BTCC honda is to a Honda K20A2

however having now done the parts and built dry sumped 2, 1.9, and 1.8L engines on TBs all my parts, and two big ower turbo Ks , one in an Exige the other a S1 elise, I am working on new parts [cams, exhaust] for 1.8L 80mm bore [OEM crank, rods] on a plenum, andwet sumped K hopefully to get somewhere near the above graph, - idea being that's the perfect engine for most S1 Elises. We'll see if the result gets close to the software prediction.

Could be my computer but I can't see the posted image. Was it the K2000 engine in Turkington's car back in 2006?

lets put things into prospective then here ,so how much does that engine cost then compared to a honda with cams and porting , say half decent honda with cams and porting inc slightly larger exhaust valves would be 3k -4k absolute tops to build i know i have done it ,so how much for your kingk engine for the btc

imho your flogging a dead horse with the rover k ,its been done to death there is nothing new to achieve and no massive gains to be made anymore ,it reached its peak years ago and people are not going to blow oodles of money on them and if they do or just want to modify a head go to well repected builders such as dva and kiwirog who have excellent reputations

I suppose its whatever floats your boat really. I have a passion for the K. Having worked at Lonbridge for 20 odd years im excused the odd bout of madness :D

IMO it was a perfect engine for the Elise, light weight and revs for fun. It was let down by poor build quality. A well built K is a great engine and many do a great many miles with no problems.

A powerful well built K will cost what ? 4 - 5K possibly. Less if you can do some of the work yourself. I could never put a Honda in mine but i understand people who do. A Honda conversion is hardly cheap. Live and let live.

This was the Judd BTCC engine

The Judd S2000 K series engine threw rods all the time, because they used a hooribly long stroke, then designed a piston with a rediculously tall compression height, which gave such a sort rod it just wasn't going to work.

My rod and rod ratio is better than OEM K which was one reason to do this engine.

This was my 2006 BTTC engine built ti replace the above

the above engine, all one off parts - ie unique set of cams, unique set of rods, unique crank, unique pistons, unique flywheel all to meet the rediculous regs cost about me 15 grand to build

The equivalent Honda engine from Neil Brown, with ,many many built cost £32,000+VAT.

freed of all the regs holding it back the BTCC K will give another 15lbft and 45bhp

- as for hondas paying 10 grand plus for 220bhp [ and another 2 grand for just 240bhp] is stupidly expensive and adds 45kg just in engine weight, - as a package it's 60kg over one of my engines, and not only is that a car killer, it is utterly contradictory to everything Lotus and Colin Chapman [and my uncle Spen King] stood for

- so I say to people who want honda engines, fine, good but put it in a honda or an audi or anything except a Lotus, and if you don't get that I don't know why you've got a Lotus!

All this has been gone over so many times over the years Simon, and seen you banned from many forums. We know you are passionate about the K-series, but what you've developed have very little to do with the cheap 1.8 k-series Lotus stuck in the back of the Elise. Yours is an expensive race engine, with many special one off parts to get just 270bhp.

Apples/pears.

I suggest you may be better received if you make technical recommendations for k-series owners rather than starting all the other engine and tuner hate again.

exactly

and if it didn't have to meet the regs it wouldn't need to have those one off parts..... you make my point for me

however it also true that scuffham, dave andrews and the like have never been able to produce a result like that, or anywhere remotely like it on a plenum, so given I get OE cranks to rev to 9600 rpm and the steel crank was only allowed to rev to 8500rpm by the regs etc etc etc you can see it doesn't need to be that spec to work reliably as a track day car, any more than you need to spend £35 grand to put a honda into a Lotus, however you honda people are always stuck with the truth that you are adding 50 0dd kg of engine weight over a stock K and more over one of my engines and that is totally contrary to the spirit and ethos of Colin Chapman, and Lotus.
