The Often Asked Question - "which Exhaust ?"

Hello All,

Am a new MLOC Member, having just purchased my first Elise - an Ardent Red S2 'R'.

Have spent some time reading the various topics about replacements exhausts, with the Larini Club Sport seeming to be the most reccommended, although many of the posts are 2 years old.

I am thinking about a Quicksilver unit - but am really undecided. Can anyone supply any pears of wisdom to help me decide. ?

Am just looking more a better sound than the OEM exhaust.

Larini, 2bular & Quicksilver are all much better made than the OEM and will sound deeper and louder.

To be honest there is very little difference between them, there are positive and negative views about all of them. Generally people think the one they bought is the best.

A lot of people myself included rate 2bular, but they can take a while to get sometimes as its a very small business.

Hi Rosco,

I have a Quicksilver for an R in my garage. I swapped back to original when I sold my 111R last summer. IIRC they retail at around £ 340.00.

Pm me if you are interested in purchasing second hand I would accept £180.00

The Quicksilver does have a lovely deep throaty sound and does not drone when cruising on motorways. No personal experience of the others.

I have a 2bular fitted, largest they make 8 x 22, it is very quiet on idle and cruise which is perfect for a conversation on the motorway but it howls when you push it, plenty of pops and bangs too, build quality is superb, but you might get black flagged at Bedford track as it's close to the limit.

I can also comment on janspeed exhausts, I had one on my S2 Elise, I had to have it welded 3 times in 2 years as it kept snapping the mounts.

hi rosco

congrats on the purchase.

as said what ever you get is going to sound better than the oem, and coupled with a k&n filter or a hurricane induction kit will sound great and release a few more hp.

russels offer sounds great, i'd sure think about it and spend the £150 you save on a hurrricane. more air in + more air out

i had a larini on my elise which i loved but was a bit bit intrusive if you wer e on a motorway trip, but great for a roof offf hoon about. i currently have a 2tublar on my exige which weighs about 1/3 weight of the oem, is very well made and sounds LOUD, particulary on the 2nd cam - i love it. its only 101db which is fine for some tracks but wont get you on bedford or donnington.

I have the Large 2bular on my R but with the tubes sized for the R. Sounds nice with some nice pops and bangs when warm and pretty good when cruising not to loud but sounds good when on CAM and should be track friendly according to Jim at 2bular.

I still haven't fitted my air filter it's still in the garage after about 6 months :(

I also have the re-maped Lotus motor sport ECU from Christopher Neil http://www.oakmeremotorgroup.co.uk/lotus/service-offers/view/184/ECU-Re-Flash best £160 you can spend on the R. Great service from them and they can do it via post in about a week rather than trecking up the M6. It lowers the Cam change over point basically sorting out the torque curve and filling the holes.

They do do a package of an exhaust, TRD air filter , and ECU remap for £650 fitted which seems good value. Not sure what the exhaust is though won't be as nice as the 2bular or the Larini but you can't see it anyway!

Oh and welcome! :drive:

I went down the 2bular route, a work of art and after 3000 miles its starting to mellow.just a shame you dont get to see it;

Many thanks to all who have replied - some very helpful comments.

Looks like it might be the Quicksilver then !!

Interesting to see the package which Chris Neil do, I bought the car from them and know that they do their own after-market exhaust, although from the one clip I have seen on Youtube, it did not sound that great ?

I like the thought of getting the 2nd hand unit, and spending the balance on something else. I have read in another post that once you start these mods, its hard to stop - I am starting to see how possible that will be - but what a great pastime, beats golf anyday !!

Old Timer - PM just sent - thanks.

Whoops - apologies to russell, misread 'Old Timer' thinking it was his name - sorry !

No wonder he has sold it to someone else

Hey Russ. Was browsing the forum and came across your post. Is your Quicksilver exhaust still for sale or was Rosco insterested in it?

I ask as I would be interested.

Let me know

Which model exhaust do you have as there seems to be a few different ones on the quicksilver website

It's my first post here as I've been spending my time over on seloc.

Thanks

Thanks again to all who provided advice.

Was offered an ex-Demo unit from Quicksliver for a very reasonable price, and picked it up from there stores unit on Friday.

The folks there, Paul & Chris, were very helpful.

Looking forward to getting my knuckles skinned next weekend !!

Cheers All

Rosco
