Jonathan E Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Anybody gone to the trouble of having their Elise resprayed. My S1 is almost 14 now and although the paint isn't bad considering its years, I'd love to have it resprayed back to its original best. Cost? any suggestions for a reputable place to take on the work?.
Vesper Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 A guy in Northants did mine - was recommended and did the bonnet and side doors and front clam - he did a good job - cost reasonable - he restores a few old cars - not sure if your close by
kayj_prod Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Mine had a full body off strip down respray two years ago now. It is a fantastic job and I'm so pleased with it. …just the worry about marking it! Bit of a trek over here, but I would absolute recommend my guy.
TJewsbury Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Is it chipped, or just needs the shine etc. back on it?
Jonathan E Posted November 25, 2013 Author Posted November 25, 2013 Is it chipped, or just needs the shine etc. back on it? The shine isn't bad given its age but the front has quite a few chips. I'm happy to travel if it means getting a good job at a good price, its my fun car these days, so only gets used when the weather is good. Winter would be an ideal time to get it done, so open to suggestions folks. Jon
DeanB Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 What sort of money is a full respray then, does anyone know?
jonnyfox Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I supplied the bodywork stripped down and including the car itself picked up then dropped back off with the sills painted £1500 Dean. I would budget another £1k maybe slightly more for a complete strip down and paint at a workshop.
kayj_prod Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I'd say you're about right there with the £1K on top, Jonny. Mine looks better than the factory job anyway!
TJewsbury Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 To take my front clam and bumper off and re-spray on insurance cost £1500+ on a insurance job. Option 1 did a good job. Properly prepared and no orange peal at all. If you phone Option 1 I'm sure Frank would talk it through and give you all the information you need. If it just needed professional re-polishing and protecting I may have been able to sort something out.
jonnyfox Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 £1500, front clam, strip and respray only.... you are having a Jeremy! Insurance you say.................... well thats interesting. No offence but that's coming out at £5k +
jonnyfox Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 hmmm tempting.... Sorry didn't include doors! Need to come clean about that.
dobbo Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I was well impressed with what Gav at Unit 4 did with mine. I won't give a price as mine was a full body-off respray, including extra bodywork mods, some repair work and a colour change, and he had big hassles with the bodyshop that originally agreed to do the paintwork side. It all got a bit complicated, but last time we talked he was hoping to get an agreement in place with someone he knows and trusts. I'd definitely give him a call to see if he would take it on.
