so its time to change the car.

my standard 02 S2 has been the most fun car i've ever had but as is human nature i'd like a quicker one!!

i drive 6/8k a year in the lotus, daily commute in summer, days off and short hoilday breaks around peaks/coast and france.

i would love to track my car but just get time due to family and work comitments to do this.

i am happy with the standard performance most of the time as its ability is greater than mine, but struggle at higher speeds to make comfortable progress without feeling im wringing its neck.

i have really enjoyed the roof off motoring of the elise and think i would miss it with an exige, although i know this is an option with some fiddling.

i love the looks of the s1 exige but think it would be too time consuming to look after as they get older:-

so hears the question

standard 02 exige 54-55 plate

111r elise 05 - 06 plate with few upgrades (induction/exhaust)

how different is the drive in reality?, any big drawbacks to the exige as a daily driver?

any thoughts comments advice greatfully recieved,

i'll proberbly end up using a dealer as i dont have time / patients to run up and down country looking at private sales or stay in and sell mine.

thanks

Apart from the roof the only real differences are:

  • Styling
  • Slightly harder suspension (but still fine on roads and not quite stiff enough for the track)
  • Tyres - these are the main difference. Slightly wider front tyre to stop understeer and much more grip when tyres are hot and its dry. They aren't bad in the wet (i was still doing 80 down craners in the wet on saturday - no comment from SteveJ and PeteF)
  • Rear tyres will only last 4k to 6k depending how you drive and fronts 12-20k (not as much a problem now there is a cheaper option out Toyo 888)

If you want a trip out in mine drop me a pm and we'll try and arrange soemthing

Or alternatively you could save a lot of cash and upgrade your existing car.

Nitrons - £1.3k

AP brakes - £1k

DVA performance upgrade - £1k

You'll loose more than that if you chop in your existing car for anything else.

steve, thought about this but fancy a new motor, colour, styling etc as well as more power.

Yeah and that includes quite a lot of sensible driving. There was a bloke on LOT that said he only got about 500 miles out of a set (trackday use only)

If the Exige S is out of the question then 111r everytime especially with what you want to do with it.

Yes, it's like looking through a cheese grater.

Wish it was I can't see a bloody thing (due to an intercooler) but maybe that is age creeping up. Not an issue though you get 100% used to it.
