A while back my S2 developed a very annoying knocking noise coming from the rear left when the car became warm (motorway). After a bit of research I had the rear inboard toe in joint replaced by Horizon and all seem ok. The knocking noise has now come back with avengence and is driving me mad. The noise happens under load but if I clamber under the car and wiggle the toe in bar it doesnt move at all, so could it be something else?? Anyone??

Just been out getting some stainless steel bolts for the under trays - have to replace dreaded red clutch hose after hot weekend causes complete lack of gears - anyway, bolt supplier put me onto another place for Rawlnuts, or as they call them Well Nuts and I've just bought 10 M5's & 10 M6's for £8.50 cash. Less than half the price of Lotus Parts. Spec: M6's = M6-6WN-19A M5's = M5-5WN-16A From: Torque Control Ltd. 60 Alstone Lane, Cheltenham, Glos GL51 8HE Very helpfull bloke, definitely worth a call. Supplies all types of blind threaded fasteners and the tools to use them.

Hello All, Have been lurking here for quite some time, but this is my first post I normally see 87 degrees whenever I'm moving, but in the last week (nice warm weather), it's been sitting around 81. It'll go down to 74 at motorway speeds and 94 in a jam (at which point the fan kicks in - it used to do this at 100?). It seems to be consistently 6 degrees too low. I've tried switching the lights on (I'm sure I read that the temp may vary if there was a dodgy electrical connection?), but nothing changed. Other clues - no coolant loss. Had HGF 15k miles ago. Now on 47k. Running standard thermostat. Decat, hurricane - but nothing changed in last 6 months. …

On my service, I've just had the following points made to me. They're in "Red" on the sheet so I assume I should worry? Also, I'm off to the Nurburgring next weekend although I'm a pansy of a driver so it'll just be a leisurely drive, not a blast at all. - N S/R track rod end - Plain nut (Should be a locking nut) - Front Inner brake pads 90% worn (They're MMC's) Another comment was - Front Flexi Pipe Mesh Breaking up, Exhaust mounts started to split and mount metal support bracket missing. and finally - N/SR Anti-Roll bat link rubber split. Now, the car's just had a full geo at Horizon, and I'll probably ask Mike to do the repairs, but when I hear th…

Hi My S1 is due for it's 54k C Service, does anyone know of anyplace near Burton on Trent which charges a reasonable amount and provides either collect and return or a courtesy car?? Would I be correct in thinking my main Rover dealer wouldn't touch it with a proverbial barge pole?? There's a specialist dealer in Hatton which seems like the logical choice - but I got a quote for £120 for a locking petrol cap from them - so dread to think what a service would cost Cheers in advance Arf

Hi All- Two q's for you today. Firstly, I have one of my (S1) headlights rusting inside and is looking a bit of a mess. While on the carlimits on Friday we were discussing all of the 'borrowed' bits on the Elise and Andy says that the headlights are from a Renault 4 .....Is that right????? If so I am thinking I can get a scrappy R4 headlight...? Next one is the headlight covers. What is the best way to get them off 'cause they are stuck well down. Is it hot water and then pull or what? Thanks all. Gaz

URGENT - Boot firmly stuck [Censored] Lotus frickin boot The spring mechanism popped off this morning. Not good when suited and booted and it is [Censored] ing it down. The black "bracket" also popped off. I placed this back into the boot lid, with the "nut" side of the bracket inside the boot lid to enable the spring to screw into it. Screwed the spring onto the boot lid - nice and secure! Closed the boot and the [Censored] won't open again. Cable is fine - ie it is pulling okay, and is trying to release the boot (in that there is slack in the cable until you push on the boot and it catches again). Tried the old "wiggle it, just a little bit…

Thinking of buying a stablemate for Ellie (the Elise- so called by the wife!), in the form of an Elan but don't know too much about them, so would appreciate any advice you have about the best model to buy and any faults to look out for when viewing. Looking to spend no more than £8000 unless a really special one comes along! Thanks Phil

Hello MLOC First of all, thanks to everyone who gave me advice last month on my knackered window. . I've fixed it myself (with good advice) and saved £400 from my robbing bar-steward Lotus dealer.. The satisfaction on doing it myself however is worth twice that. . Anyway, my 97 S1 came with Goodyear Eagle F1,s, 195 fronts, and 205 rears. . I'm a complete novice to Lotus, however it seems to understeer just a tad. (They are run in, but look almost new so I don't really wanna buy a new set of 4 . .) I've tried the archives - and am getting the gist that the combo of 195/205 is all wrong. How much could this be affecting things ? . Plus - are Eagles any…
