Hi All Noticed a new rattle on the Elise yesterday, after a quick look tonight it seems the heatshield on the exhaust manifold has come lose and vibrating against the back of the cabin. Is it an easy job to fix? Ive had a quick look (in the dark) and its a pig to get at. Its due for a service in the next few weeks so it'll be off to horizon. Is it worth waiting until they have it or can I do it myself - bearing in mind I have no experience with mechanics. Im assuming its safe to drive with it like this. Its not come completely off, i think the one side is either very lose or fallen off. thanks all Jeff

Just got the Optimate and though I may as well get it to fully charge my battery for tomorrow's drive. Can see the only way to connect it ( without dis-connecting the battery ) is to connect the crocodile clips to the outer rings of the battery leads ( no clean /clear terminal 'meat' to connect to ). Is this OK? Am concerned the charge will not be able to pass through the rings, or that it may not be the way to do things. Cheers!

The rubber thing snapped on my alarm fob yesterday. Wheres the best place to get a replacement? I'm not sure if its a standard lotus unit - do S1 fobs normally only have 1 button? christurbo/LEW1S - do you have any info from when you had the car? Theres a receipt in the book for a new alarm fiited by a dealer but Im not sure if theyve stuck a non-standard unit in. thanks Jeff

As a newcomer to the world of lotus, I was hoping to get a bit of advice from all you knowledgeable folk... I love my car but I'm s-t-ruggling to get in the damn thing! No, its not that I have a BMI of 45, its that the key will not turn in the lock on the driver's side. It appears to fit in alright but the lock is jammed. Am I missing something obvious? Also, is there anywhere where I can get a replacement key (standard key for 02 plate 135) without having to give up a month's wages? Sorry, nearly done... Guess you have heard this one time and time again but... heater knob is stuck on hot (which aint a problem in the old british winter) any simple ideas? …

If I start my car and then switch on the lights then sometimes (not everytime but the majority of the time) the rear fog light switches itself on. The switch isnt depressed when you look at it. If I then press the switch in and back out the light goes off and is fine for the rest of the journey. Any ideas? Not seen it switch on at any other time when I'm driving but then its hard to tell when your moving along! So at the moment, everytime I switch my lights on I have to press my fog light on and back off just incase it is on to reset them.

Done 14k now on my rear tyres (S2111S) They are the original Bridgestones and have worn very evenly...making sure that the pressures are always spot on to book Now I'm down to the marker blocks in the tread but the strange thing is the nearside tyre has worn about 2mm more than the offside Is this anything anyone else has found or should I get it into Horizon for a geo check? Not had any signs of handling problems Not one for nailing from standstill either Dave

The drivers door on my S2 is out of line (the door is sitting slightly into the line of the rear quarter when closed). I believe this is a common problem and easily solved. What I cannot establish is whether I need to correct tension on the door hinge itself or do something with the bolt the door lock fits into Any ideas people? Oh! Another question.... The new LED Rear Lights on the latest Elise are looking pretty fine. Does anyone know if they could potentially be retro fitted to an earlier S2? Or, as the lighting technology is totally different would the wiring, connectors, fuses etc all have to be changed?

I have had the odd blat in my car lately...while the roads have been dry but salty looking...and i was wondering what any of you chaps do about cleaning off the underside of the car? I don't think that my local carwash does a spray underwash only program? Perhaps i shouldn't worry about it as it has only been used a few times in this weather? Any hints and tips out there???

Hello, I have one of those stuck on front number plates on my S1 and was wondering about the best way to remove it without damaging or marking my clam? if its going to leave a horrible mark or something i would rather leave it but any help would be appreciated. Also the garage i bought the car off had put its website on the rear clam just under the 'Elise' sticker, it seems to be made of a similar stuff to the rest of the cars standard stickers so i was wondering how would be best to remove that too cos i dont really want to be a rolling advertisement for his company!! Thanks in advance. Guy

I am going to take the VX into Horizon very soon for a Geo. What should I ask for? I want a balanced ride with no snap o/s. At the mo it feels a bit unstable at high speeds around swooping bends. Also will the Horizon geo make the tyres wear unevenly? Cheers. Chris

Next week is new tyre time and a brand new set of Yoko Advan Neovas will adorn my Elise. Can anyone who has experience of these tyres give me some tips on how to run them in, speed limits, mileage, do's & don'ts etc. Much appreciated, cheers.

Help Guys, please... I have just received some alloy switch covers from an Ebay seller. The seller has seemingly good feedback and I am not going to name names until I have spoken with him after the New Year holidays. I tried the first cover on the blank switch cover and it became stuck very soon leaving a long way left to push it on. I tried pulling it off but only succeeded to remove the whole switch from the dash. On trying to get the cover off the blank switch I have completey demolished the switch cover, and I wasn't being hamfisted, the cover is locked totally solid. Thinking that this was probably a poorly finished/sized cover I went to put the second o…

So having spent yesterday freezing my nuts off refitting the cat, the car has just failed the emissions test (miserably). The same cat was used on Sonya's car about 1 month ago and passed first time, so I don't think the cat's the problem. The results were as follows : Fast Idle 1 CO = 7.08% (limit 0.3%) HC = 1563 ppm (limit 200 ppm) Lambda = 0.772 (limit 0.97 - 1.03) Fast Idle 2 CO = 6.79% (limit 0.3%) HC = 1606 ppm (limit 200 ppm) Lambda = 0.780 (limit 0.97 - 1.03) Natural Idle CO = 7.63% (limit 0.5%) The engine is a DVA tuned to around 200bhp, with an Emerald that has been remapped to include the Lambda sensor. It burns a bit of oil, …
