Can anybody on here comment? I bought the car a couple of weeks ago and thought the back was a bit "tail happy" (it was fitted with - fairly new - Avon ZZ3's). I took a guess that it was the tyres at fault (the car -'99 S1 - had only 20k on the clock and came from a lady owner who I don't think "thrased it at all"). I had 4 new Yokohama Avan Neo LTS tyres fitted at the weekend and, once I'd worn them in, what a difference The car has plenty of grip now, is well balanced and (a plus) the steering has a lot more "feel". Second thing I did was fit new Pagid disc pads all round (without any anti-squeal shims) and a similar improvement for the brakes (and a much h…

Having had a look on eliseparts there seems to be a few different types - I was just thinking it would be a piece of exhaust pipe - literally Any recommendations on what to go for (pref 2nd hand). Is there one which will give me the noise but I won't need to replace when MOT comes around or at least is easy to replace?

Hi chaps (and chapettes) I have just put a deposite down on a 98 S1 Elise. As far as I could see it`s a beautifull well looked after bit of kit, then I drove it......... WOW awesome!!! What a fun car, where do I sign?! The car has 45K on the clock, it has a DVA 135 kit fitted (professionally), a Ramair filter and a full stainless pipe. What should I be looking out for? Is there any weak areas? Have you got any hints or tips to a first time Lotus owner? Cheers Rich.

....besides the greater Hp! My mate has a 160 and the noise it makes even at idle is so much better than mine. We have discussed this and we think it may been down to the cams but I think there may be more to it than that. Does anyone know what other diffrences there are between the two engines and how easy/costly it is to make the changes?

Obviously I cant do this on the ground so if I have the wishbones perfectly horizontly held up by a jack will this be a safe bet. Any advice or correct precedure would be great, cheers guys. Simon

Hi folks, picked up my S1 Elise on Tues' and I'm chuffed to bits. It is better than I ever imagined it would be! - it's not very often you get something that's better than you think is it? I so much enjoy looking thru the rear-view mirror when I've exited a r'bout and see the other cars sooo far away in such a short time! Done 260 miles already since Tues lunch and I've been at work all day Wed and today. Would/could anyone of you chaps/chapettes offer their opinion on the smell that is ever present in the car (not fear ) : it's almost definitely coolant I smell. I'm not losing any as far as I can tell. Any ideas??

Hi- Next service due is a C and according to manual this should be 12 months after my A service - which will be July. However, the car was reg'd in 1999 and to my knowledge has never had the Cam belt changed - does anyone know what the life on them is - been told as little as three years.

I'm just under my S1 at the mo (well not as I type this, but you know what i mean) in search of this really annoying rattling sound coming from the rear of the car. The rattle has been getting progressively worse over the past few weeks and I am convinced it is a mount or bracket or something that has cracked, broken, sagged etc. It can be best heard when accelerating and the revs hit 2.5k, fine at 2k, fine at 3k but rattles like buggery at 2.5k. Also if I am accelerrating and turning left when i hit 2.5k then it kinda screeches and rattles Anyway, i'm under there and can't see anything wrong at all However, looking at the two exhaust pipes at the back of …

hi guys a need, an "a" sevice, done 9k since buying in june, up to 30k now on an 02 s2 so guess i need a cam belt to. i would also like an induction kit to improve hp and noise and a short gear shift as it keeps catching on my kids car seat!!!!!!. i have a good friend who runs his own garage and used to race cars pretty seriously, so knows his stuff who can fit new parts at good price but should i get car serviced via horizon or main dealer as car has previous lotus history from lotus dealers and chris neil. friend says he can achieve induction improvements using a "universal" induction kit and some good air flow for about half cost of hurricane, anyone done similar? …

Hi folks, I can't find the floor fix post so apologies for reserecting. I lifted my plastic mats 2 years ago as reccomended and the floor was not too bad, I cleaned it up a bit but I haven't had enough time to arrange the proper fix (although the corrosion hasn't got worse). I'm going to fit a full carpet set this weekend so I'm not worried about the dealer mats but I remember someone saying they'd got hold of the stuff (excuse the technical term) that stops the corrosion. What is it? Does anyone know where to get it? Or should I not worry about it? Cheers, Adam.

Hi, How do you depresssurise the fuel system before changing the fuel filter. I've followed the instructions in the manual to remove the fuel pump fuse (though not sure I removed the correct one - this could be the route of the problem) and then trying to turn the engine over for 10 seconds. Did notice that after removing the fuse the engine did not do its usual "whir" after turning the key and soon ran dry so was probably the correct fuse. Every time I tried to take the old one off, however, the fuel kept flowing. Didn't seem to show any signs of slowing even after 30 seconds. Has anyone got any ideas? Cheers, Richard

Hi everyone : Further to previous posts (cheers), and much searching, I have decided to replace BOTH the blue stack sender, the standard thermostat, and re_ground the battery. I'm pretty sure the brown one is OK, as the fan kicked in the other day when stuck in traffic (102 degrees i think?) . . The issue is that the car is almost always running cold - 65-75 degrees at the moment with rare exceptions (above) even after a ten mile blast on a mild day . . Question - can these both be replaced DIY - and what is involved . . It can't be as simple as the below ? quote from a popular site i use (blue sender) : "Easy to replace. Located on the LH side to…
