Hi I don't think that's normal as my S2 111S never did that. Mark
StormS2
Any ideas what it could be?
Alex B
Get it plugged into a code read see if anything has flagged up.
Martin R
If you mean does it sputter when it reaches the rev limit? Yes it should. It is to prevent damage to the engine. It does it regular on VHPD,s as well
Alex B
At what RPM does it splutter?
StormS2
That's what I thought/hoped it might be Martin,if I'm honest I'm not sure what the revs were exactly at as it revs so quick compared to the standard s2 I think I'm just not use to getting the gear change in quick enough?it was definitely around the 8,000s though I'd say,I was concentrating on the road more than the rev counter:/
Meister
Oh if it's around the 8,000 rpm as Martin says your probably bouncing off the rev limiter!
StormS2
Yeah sorry if my first post wasn't very well explained, like I said I can't say exactly what it hits but it's definitely quite far round the counter!looks like i need to getsome quicker gear change practice in! un1eash
When the engine is cold the rev limiter is around 5k and very easy to hit in 1st and 2nd gear.
StormS2
That makes a lot of sense as the two times it happened the car hadn't been driven for a few hours
DeanB
Omg what manner of torture is this you describe?!? Warm it up properly before thrashing it man for God's sake! And I wouldn't make a habit of red - lining it in first even then cos it puts a fair bit of strain on the transmission and engine mounts and so on. I tend to wait until it's in second before really wellying it.
Alex B
What Dean said^ All though the 111s has more power the ratios on the gear box are longer than standard s2 so you'll actually find the 0-60 times aren't that much different if memory is correct its about .1 of a second difference. So finding it loads quicker revving is possible in your mind.
StormS2
Dean as it happens I'm actually a very cautious driver and take care of my cars very well it does just happen these two occasions I'm pretty sure it wasn't warmed up properly:/ my bad! But thought I'd be honest as maybe that was the issue, yeah I must say that I'm not overly impressed with the difference in performance, what route would you guys go down for a little extra power? There should be half a second in it to 60mph but real world performance difference isn't massive, the 111s will pull away top end but not loads as it weighs a little more than a standard 120bhp k series
