Andy wright Posted January 8 Author Posted January 8 The above show the new two piece rotors from Seriously Lotus, the revised front Calipers installed in a fetching shade of blue complete with side feed and new hoses which I had to make up using -3AN jic fitting at both ends. Makes hose removal a doddle . The rears are in the matching blue and are now graced with new handbrake cables ( thanks Eliseparts whose service is exemplary ). New larger bore master cylinder fitted along with new hoses from the reservoir . The brakes appear to have bled very satisfactorily just with a pressure bleeder but I will find out if air is still lurking in there somewhere when I use it on the road . Metal, has arrived so tomorrow I can get in with making a new baseplate for the HPE shifter . Oh and the engine got a new air filter for good behaviour . ( The old one I had not looked at in the 14 months of my ownership as the car had been serviced just before I bought it. The one I removed looked as if it had been in place for a decade. Quote
Lithopsian Posted January 8 Posted January 8 10.9 capheads in the calipers? Original spec was 12.9, 58Nm. Quote
Andy wright Posted January 8 Author Posted January 8 Yes. Just about all manufacturers have gone to 10.9 for critical fixings on chassis and brakes . The snag with 12.9 is that they have a more sudden transition from their elastic limit to their yield point, so although they can withstand a higher tensile load ( higher Young’s modulus ) the transition to yield is too abrupt. And for the caliper, it’s an M10 and at 60Nm the tensile load is way below the bolts tensile strength. And Eliseparts clearly feel the same way as they were new from them earlier this year . Quote
Lithopsian Posted January 8 Posted January 8 EP sell those bolts? Couldn't find them when I looked a while back. Quote
Lithopsian Posted January 8 Posted January 8 4 minutes ago, Andy wright said: Yes. £5.95 plus VAT for a set of 4 . Ah, never mind me. I thought I was looking at a bolt fixing the two halves of the caliper body, but it is attaching to the upright. Quote
Andy wright Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 Shifter base plate version two just about done today. The pictures tell most of the story Quote

Andy wright Posted January 11 Author Posted January 11 Just about finished and it works . Bonus . I will add a few more photos once the whole thing is properly bolted down . Very tempted not to try to replace the tunnel cover but just make a small switch panel to fit in front of the gearstick to bridge the gap between the gearstick and the ‘u’ shaped footwell cover . Andy wright Posted January 13 Author Posted January 13 And today my new dampers arrived. Penske one way adjustable . Supplied by Blackwatch Racing. Bespoke valving and springs ( 300lb/in front and 400lb/in rear so wheel frequencies are still below 2.0Hz . I will report on what they are like once they are on the car and the car is back on the road . Quote
Andy wright Posted January 14 Author Posted January 14 And now my HPE shifter is well and truly nailed down, I made a switch panel to bridge the rather untidy gap between the shifter and the forward tunnel. Just the switch to add and that’s another job ticked off. I managed to fit the replacement front upper damper mounting brackets ( new ones come with the dampers and are needed as the damper body is wider than the standard Bilsteins ) Lotus didn’t make that job easy . Lithopsian Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Red springs! Now you're giving me ideas, I think they'd look good on a grey car. On a more serious note, do you know what ride height you're going to end up with? Or are aiming for? Custom brackets at the front, but you're on your own at the rear? Seems to be the standard approach, it is a bit of a pain on the S1 where there are two different rear brackets about 10mm different. Quote
