KurtB Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Good'ay peeps, I've literally just returned to good ole Blighty after a couple of months away (it was supposed to be 3 months). I surrendered the tax on all 3 vehicles before I left hoping to save a few pennies and my wife waited for the cheques to roll in. They didn't and it appears they got lost in the post (despite being sent recorded)....harrumph! As the weather is fab I want to take the Exige out, but have just filled out the V33 (claiming road tax back with no tax disc) in order to get the money back. I want to retax the cars from 01 May anyway, so how do I legally get back on the road AND claim the tax for 2 months I've been away? It's good to be home, I miss the UK. Any help will be hugely appreciated. Cheers, Kurt
jody391 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Welcome back mate I hope you had fun? Sorry not much help RE Tax discs :/
KurtB Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 Hi Jody, and thank you! I had enough fun to last a long time but I'll tell you about it in person. Just copied the above into seloc, just to see if they know. Waaaayyy too tired to drive yet anyway, but want to throw it out there....
scatty Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 YAAAAY Kurts back!!!!! No idea mate!! The weathers nice though. Just a shame you don't have a tax disc.... :-) Ps, this needs doing before Sunday so Dean can buy you breakfast!!!
Alex B Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Haven't the foggiest with regards to re taxing. Although I did for get to re tax mine at the start of the week
kayj_prod Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 I just re-taxed mine yesterday, so maybe I'll see you out and about at the weekend Kurt? There won't be a problem getting new tax in the normal way, either online or at the PO. V5+MOT+insurance certificate- but I'm sure you knew that. (I think online you can legally start driving even before you hold the disc.) I can't see why buying a new disc would add to the difficulty of re-claiming the un-used portion of your old VED. You've done the V33 so worse that can happen is DVLA don't refund the duty. Can't let that stop you enjoying what is supposed to be a great bank holiday over this way!
Numbnutz Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Just a thought. If you didn't surrender the tax discs (and lost them) would they still be taxed now? Might not be worth the hassle cancelling and starting again, as they would be sorned, and you need to go to the post office armed with not and insurance if sorned. Also, I thought the discs had to be in the dvla before the 1st of the month, and as they are lost, you may as well claim against the post office as dvla will drag it out, and you need proof of posting etc. Like I said , may not be worth the hassle. I tax my bike all year and only use it a few times.
KurtB Posted May 3, 2013 Author Posted May 3, 2013 Ultimately I stopped being a tight arse and got duplicate tax discs (£7 each). I washed the car off yesterday cos it was very dusty and grubby from my last run with MLOC in Feb. I took it for a short blast last night while waiting for dinner to cook and it was SUPERB to be back behind the wheel!! Grips like a limpet in the dry on its AD08's (thanks Scatty), and I look forward to getting out when I can (which can't be this weekend unfortunately). What's going on this w/e incidentally??
