Carlylove
Drove the Elise all day on Sat during the rainy weather and not even a flappy rear end then Roundabout coming off A52 to Burton is always a bit dodgy but in the wet it is an ice rink. Anyway due to buying "Bending the Rules" DVD and using the wheel turning techniques in there since I watched it, when the rear flipped out (unbelievably quickly) I managed to carry on with a mere if not scary on & off the kerb moment. This has resulted in the front & rear near side wheels being scuffed on the rim for about 4". I will get the wheels done properly but has anyone got any short term repair tips till then? Thought about a small hammer to flatten the scuff as it's quite sharp! Also thoughts on getting the geom done as it seemed to lose its a*s very quickly. dobbo
The wet road is not the place to practice Well done though - could have been a lot worse. I'd get the geo done - might not have caused it, but could well be out now with a knock on the kerb. Chris
christurbo
Easy mate! - [the only problem you are going to get is blending the colour of the rim] Whilst your doing this you could also change the colour of your rims [cough black ] You sand the alloy with some fine wet and dry, apply some filler, and sand to shape, you then primer, sand, primer, sand, paint, sand, paint, sand, paint, sand, paint, sand, laquer, sand, x 3/4. All done! I did this once in my 106 GTI - I had to buy a new alloy on one corner though as it had a big chunk out and was slightly bent as it felt that the balancing was out on it! - check this out
malbon
on good tyres the elise grips like anything in the wet giving u great confidence. the only trouble is when it breaks..it BREAKS and you won't catch it on the road. dont know whether its down to the short wheelbase, front rear weight dist or what. the s2000 you can hang out like the small dicks over the urinals on a friday night. the elise you cant. ive tried. malbon
didnt answer your question did i. just file the sharp bit down. dont know who does refurbs but sure somoenone on the board should. your geo was prob fine. but as i said in my post above - tis what the elise is like - snap - and your gone. progression that you may see in the dry if your a quick cornerer disappears. get your geo done tho. horizon are always a good bet and mike down there also knows a wheel refurber. kill 2 with 1 if u can plan it right. Carlylove
Update! Will get geom done (probably at Horizon when I get a "C" service done ready for winter). I pray for the day when all roundabouts have the same road surface they put on bends & near pelican crossings to stop skids. Even the Golf with new tyres gets oversteer on this roundabout so you know I was takin it quite easy. Least I didn't stuff it into the railings eh? Ready for loads of careful winter driving
