Draco
Hello all. I'm an Elise owner for just 3 days now, and am just a bit concerned that engine temp is running much lower than expected. I was expecting around 80 deg. c or more, but have maxed at only about 65-70 so far. I'm not really working the car hard yet, but have had a couple of 50mile+ runs so far at steady 3500 to 4000 rpm, and the temp will settle in low sixties. Not much change after short high revs bursts. Is this a problem? V. glad to be a Lotus owner by the way! Cheers
Mark H
Welcome I wouldnt be surprised if the sensor has gone to be honest, had it on my old one a few times I seem to remember.
malbon
mine runs at 65. sensor must be knackered i reckon. should run at 82-87 if the sensor works ok.
Ladders
I think it could be the cold weather? Mine's been doing the same until the weather has warmed up a bit. When we had some really cold days mine was dropping right down to about 60, made worse when I was driving at speed.
Wuddie
as long as the temp aint going the other way..dont worry
Steve J
Check out your thermostat, it may be buggered and stuck in the open position, therefore full cooling all the time. Better than too hot though

Martin R
They all seem to be slightly different. My normal reading is between 85 and 87. It goes up to 90 ish if im sitting in traffic. Welcome to MLOC by the way
dobbo
82-85 for the last 4 1/2 years, unless sat in traffic after sustained run. It has been known for me to sit there with heater on full and fan on max to get the temp down then That sounds too low though. I'd check both temp sensors. The one for the Stack sounds knackered, butif the other one is as well, it'll be feeding wrong temps to the ECU as well. Chris
Draco
Thanks fellas, sounds like its a bit low so will have a word with dealer. Just wanted some independent opinions to avoid being fobbed off. Laters.
Martin R
Ah dealers, now that is another subject You will get some very strong opinions on certain dealers on here. If you update your profile with your location, someone will tell you the best place to go. It may or may not be a dealer.
Draco
Got my Elise from Strattons in Norfolk, not too far from Hethel. Any interesting opinions on them? Really got on with saleman, only one who didn't actually try to sell me anything, just enthused about Lotus. Worst dealer I visited was Peter Smith near Derby. Saleasman started talking about finance before mentioning any cars. Obviously my jeans looked too scruffy that day. Big mistake on his part. I'm based in Newark, Notts. Any decent dealers close by? Steve J
PS = not good reputation If you're after a Lotus dealer, then Nick Whale in Brum is the nearest good one. If you're after a Lotus specialist then Horizon Motorsport West Of Brum is highly rated. Take it back to the dealer you purchased the car from and get them to investigate the temp problem and sort under the warrantee.
GCCK
From Newark, strongly suggest you speak to Kelvedon Motors at Spalding. Pat has been associated with Lotus for years & years. Alternatively Horizon, far side of Brum.
Disco
O dear mine only get into the 60’s / 70’s If I have been in stop/start traffic, but I’ve only got a 15min to 25min journey everyday to work and back, should it get into the 80’s very quick in this weather on a standard car?
