Why Does It Always Rain On Me? - Barcelona Test, Day 1

Romain Grosjean returned to the Circuit de Catalunya for another day of testing in cold and wet conditions in Barcelona. The team ran through a programme of assessments and correlations, including work on the DDRS Device.

With the unfavourable track conditions, only short aerodynamic runs were conducted in the afternoon.

Fast Facts:

  • Track: Barcelona, Spain, 5.9km
  • Chassis: E21-02
  • Weather: Cloudy, frequent showers, ambient 8-10°C, track 8-12°C
  • Programme: System checks, temperature monitoring, data correlation, assessment of the performance of the car with its initial aerodynamic package, DDRS Device correlation
  • Laps Completed: 52
  • Classification: P11, 1:34.928
  • Interruptions: Red flags

What’s Next?

Romain returns to the E21 for his final day of pre-season testing tomorrow.

Romain Grosjean:

“Another day with bad weather in Barcelona is not what I wanted, but there’s nothing you can do about it. It was a bit of a frustrating day as we concentrated on aero runs and never went for a time on the drying track surface. The car feels good on both the intermediate and wet tyres and we’ve run through more of our pre-season test programme so those are positives. You never want to see yourself at the bottom of the timing screens, so hopefully that’s the only time it happens this season. We certainly know there’s more pace in the car than we saw today!”

Alan Permane, Trackside Operations Director:

“Given the weather, this morning’s session concentrated on running assessments between the wet and intermediate tyres and we’re getting a much better idea of Pirelli’s 2013 wet tyres. In the afternoon we concentrated on assessing our rear wing DDRS Device. These conditions aren’t great as it’s difficult to run comparison tests with an ever changing track surface. Nevertheless, we’ve clocked up more laps on the E21, tried different settings and conducted numerous aero-runs. This meant that our lap time today was very far from what we’d expect had we conducted a more normal test programme.”

  • Newbie question

As the title suggests , a newbie query. I have just bought an S2 Elise , 2007 with the Toyota 1ZZ power unit in ‘ touring spec’. That means electric windows, a radio and , err, not sure what else. Anyway, that is not the subject of the query. The car is blue with a cream interior. The latter I don’t plan to keep. In fact , already bought some equivalent second hand door cards in black and am looking hard at a pair of Corbeau LE seats . So, first part of my query centres on those Corbeau seats. A

Adventures of an S1 Elise in Germany

Some of you will know, but for the rest, I'll be working in Germany near Mannheim until end of 2026 with 75% of my time there, and 25% back home. As i fancy doing some different roads, and I've booked two weekend driving tours with Delightful Driving company (run by Elisa Artoli), on Thursday 10th July I'll be setting of in my S1 Elise, and 4 days later I plan to arrive at my apartment. I plan to post about my driving adventures over there, so keep an eye on this blog should you be int

    LitP 2025 photos

Does anyone have any good photos of this year's LitP that they wouldn't mind sharing? Absolute Lotus magazine would like to publish a short report of the event and need some photos. Ideally I think they would like a selection of pics from the entire weekend so bbq, pootle, runs, Sunday breakfast stop the procession down Winnats Pass and Bamford. Photos of the people aswell as the cars are also welcomed. If you have any and are happy for them to go in the magazine without a credit or pa

    Exige V6 - Rear tyres

Rear tyres will need changing fairly soon.................... My Exige is currently fitted with 265/35R18 rears.  The Sport 380/410/430 are fitted with 285/30R18.  Would there be any benefit in going with a bigger profile rear tyre?  I'm just looking at some options.  Cup2's are proving difficult to find.
