Lotus Evora - Engine And Gearbox

Lotus Evora - Engine and Gearbox

The exceptional working relationship that Lotus has enjoyed with Toyota over

several decades, combined with the overwhelmingly enthusiastic reception for

the company's four-cylinder power units in the Elise and Exige, guaranteed the

Japanese giant's inclusion on the shortlist for the Evora engine supplier.

The final choice was Toyota's all-alloy 2GR-FE 3.5-litre V6 DOHC, with dual

VVT-i ('intelligent' variable valve timing) and ETCS-i – Electronic Throttle

Control System – intelligent. Lotus has painstakingly developed its own T6e

engine management software for this engine to optimise its compatibility with

the unique requirements of the Evora to give a peak power output of 276 hp /

280PS/ 206 kW at 6400 rpm, while boosting its maximum torque to 256lbft

(350 Nm) at 4700 rpm.

In addition to the changes to the engine management system, Lotus has

designed a bespoke exhaust system, a Lotus designed AP Racing flywheel

and AP Racing clutch to allow the V6 to rev more freely and provide rapid

throttle response. The strength of the engine's mid-range torque means that

gutsy performance will be easily accessible without having to thunder through

to the redline. This makes the Lotus Evora a thoroughly satisfying car for

everyday road use and a rewarding one when you just want to drive.

The 2GR-FE V6 engine is mated to a manual six-speed gearbox, again

Toyota-sourced. An optional sports ratio gearbox offers even more driver

involvement. Many Lotus owners enjoy the blend of unique performance and

efficiency that the brand's cars offer and true to the Lotus value of

"performance through light weight" CO2 emissions are class leading at 205

g/km while fuel consumption on the combined cycle is 32.5 mpg (8.7 litres /

100 km). Fuel economy for the urban cycle is 22.8 mpg (12.4 litres / 100 km)

with 43.5 mpg (6.5 litres / 100km) on the extra urban cycle.

Lotus Evora: 205 g/km CO2

32.5 mpg (8.7 litres / 100 km) - Combined Cycle

22.8 mpg (12.4 litres / 100 km) - Urban Cycle

43.5 mpg (6.5 litres / 100 km) - Extra Urban Cycle

    Elise S3 Brakes

The brakes on my Elise 240 FE never felt brilliant but at 2.5 years old in the cold and wet did nothing when pressed, a few pumps later and some braking happened. I took it in and the pads (oem from new) were glazed. I replaced them with Pagid RS42 and updated fluid. Difference was night and day.  Now, a year and maybe 3500 miles on and the pedal feel is a little wooden again (like can brake light or hard but nothing in between) and they are squealing really bad at town driving  speeds and lig

Tyre comparison - short note on v105 vs ad08rs

Elise S2 k series with standard geometry so set up to understeer gently. Which is exactly what I've been getting on runs out. Car is on the recommended yoko v105 tyres. There a two types the ones to get have a slightly stiffer sidewall and are recommended for mercs iirc. V105 is in my experience a very competent road tyre for all seasons and daily driving. Definitely recommended. V105 thoughts coming off a no longer available very old and hard and narrower front tyre.  As normal T
